  • What Upgrades are available for 96' Heads?

    Hey Everyone,

I have a few questions. I got a set of 96' Heads that I am rebuilding from scrach and I wanted to know:

    1. WHO makes stainless valves for these heads?
    2. WHO makes a bit stronger Valve springs?

Can I use JUST the 96' heads on a 1991 DOHC with my 1991 Cam Carriers and upper / lower Intake?

Ferrea can make the valves. SI makes some but I wouldn't use them as they aren't that great. You can either shim the springs or use ford 4.6 SOHC springs with the ford valve seals for their seat, and cut the top off where their seal goes so you can use the stock seals. Its a pretty good fit that way.

The 96 heads will fit on a 91. The only thing you have to change is the exhaust manifolds, or go with custom headers. Otherwise, they are externally the same.

Im out of town on dialup or id look it up. I wanna say its 97# at 1.4 and just over 200 at 1.03. Look up the comp cams ovate springs for the 4.6 SOHC.

Cheapest I found them is on ebay in sets of 16. If we can get 4 people in we can buy 3 sets and have 4. Perhaps you can get them cheaper than 180 for 16. Ill have to ask grasshopper if he can get better pricing as well. I wanted to sell them on the store but if I can't get a decent deal its just not worth it.

Stock is 80/180 for reference. Replacement TRW springs are 72/172. The comp springs coil bind later than stock too so you could shim them at least .060 (stock can go .060 as well).
