  • Looking for some scanner help...

OK...about a month after I bought my 95 Grand Prix GTP the ABS light came on so I decided to try and find myself a scanner. I bought one and it didn't work so I took it back and basically gave up.

Can anyone here recommend a scanner that will plug into my car and will work? Maybe even one that can give me HP readings and tell me my 0-60 times etc.? Am I just dreaming?? I read of a scanner on another board for newer style GPs that will determine your HP based on a 0-60 time and some weights, granted probably not as accurate as a dyno, probably a lot cheaper in the long run. I figured if there was one for the 3.4L DOHC with this potentail, this would be the place to ask about it. Where might I be able to get it?

btw...the ABS light is now gone...turned out to be a seized caliper and 4 bad rotors, I just want something to do my own scanning with. I may even be open to buying a laptop and the software to go with it for such an application.

    Thanx

    Jamie

eh.... you got the dreaded 95... it has obd 1.5 so finding a scaner will be near impossible. maybe a GM tech II scanner? but not sure

efi-live will do it but thats a laptop, cable, and 180 bucks for the software. I have the efi-live file so it may be possible to use the info from it to make a file for tunerpro R/T which is free. You wont get hp from it but you can see the codes and what the computer is up to.

Is there a conversion? That explains why neither the OBD1 or the OBD2 worked.

Seeing codes is a step in the right direction...but for that price I would want to be able to see more.

you wound need some new sensors. a engine harness and new PCM.

also im not sure if you could still use the 95 intake manifold. you may have to switch to a 96+ manifold....

if your going thru all that, i would drop in a new trany too the 97 mc's had the DOHC but also had the 4t65e just like the newer 3800's have. although it was geared a bit diff but it is a much better trany.

so if your going thru all the work to convert to 96 you might as well go to 97
