  • What parts are needed to swap in the late model Alternator?

    Hey everyone,

I forgot what parts off the 96+ are needed to swap onto the older 3.4 DOHC's the late model Alternator? The Late model alternator I heard is suppose to be better. How many amps is the late model one???

I'm doing this myself for the OBD II swap. The first thing you need is the newer timing cover. The bolt locations are actually different. You need both backside brackets, one that is a solid chuck of steel and the other is a twisted steel rod. The old vent won't work, you need the newer vent because is has allowances for the relocated positive terminal. Also the bolts that hold it on the front side are different lengths. The connector on the harness is also different and no longer goes to the RS Electrical Center. So unless you're planning on upgrading to newer electronics, it's not worth it. The new alternator is 99 amps where the old one is 105 amps.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.
