Cheaper, less tranny work, better on gas, and I loved the LQ1 in my old Z34

ummm LS1 gets better mpg then the lq1! i still think it would be better with a 350 small block but oh well pick your poison

the LS1 would be a whole lot more expensive, though, lol, and the LQ1 in my Z usually got about 30 MPG on the highway, unless I was romping on the throttle

The LS1 probably wouldn't get better highway mpg without paying even more money to get your hands on one of the super-overdriven transmissions that came attached to it from the factory, too. City mileage would still be the same or worse than the LQ1's, from what I know.

maybe its the fact that i am only getting about 13 mpg city with my DOHC and my best highway is about 25. i've heard things about some montes having clogged cat's now im suspicous that this could be my prob. new exhaust pland. so i'll see if mpg improves. but other then that im not sure what could be hurting gas. its got new wires, plugs, o2, recently rebuilt trans, a bunch of P&P parts and a good FWI so my mpg should have went up!

Wow, yeah, you've got some problems. If something caused you to be running rich for an extended period of time (or just very very rich for a little while), your catalytic converter could easily have become clogged... so it could easily be more than one thing causing your problem.

From what I hear, the -6/6 degree timing on the DOHC makes for better gas mileage on a daily driver... I plan on doing that if/when I get the motor...

Either way, unless something is seriously wrong, I'll be getting at LEAST as good mileage as I'm getting now, lol... and even if a V8 swap would get me better mileage... I like the LQ1 better

Running rich. or bad gas can clog the cat pretty quickly... (the cat on my S-10, though, is like 2x the size of the one that was on my Z, lol)

i never new that... i was runing rich for a while... i had probs with some bad injectors recently... the computer was pulling fuel to the max but it still was running rich. it actaully triggerd a rich and lean code on the same day! but thanks to my PT i now have L67 injectors in. Tuned way down ofcourse. but with plenty of room for upgrade later.

anyone know if this could also be causeing my low RPM KR/stumble? it seems to only happen when the trany shifts to 3rd or OD at around 2000 or 1800 RPM i get spikes of KR. if i give it gas just a little its still there but if i get the car to shift it goes away and if i let off the gas it goes away. somone told me it could be vibrations in the trans giving a false KR but would like a second oppinon.

my isp has been down for a while but to sum it up, all i am waiting for now is to motivate my damn tuner to dial in the ems and then the swap begins.

edit: made initial contact with the tuner and got the ms loaded to run the car but i had a tps problem. i just fixed that and now the ms is 100% functional. this weekend it should be online and tuned. wish me luck and hp.

swap is done, just have to go to an exhaust shop and get the headers hooked up to the rest of the exhaust.

i stripped the existing paint off using chemical stripper, then sanded it down, then scuffed it and then polished it.

i used basic high temp engine paint on it.
