Just curious. How much weight can you lose from a W Body, and where from? And still keep structural integrity.

RE: Re: RE: Weight Reduction
don't know about cutty's but fiberglass hoods and decklids can be bought for lumi's and gp's. There are lightweight seats, lighter wheels for sure, and lighter carpet. i think i have seen fiberglass dashes be4. there are fiberglass front ends and rear ends but that may compromise the integrity if you actually remove the bumpers.
other methods include doing away with conviences like a/c, cruise etc..
maybe some company somewhere makes lexan windows but i doubt it.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

I had thought about this a while ago, and created this thread over on one of the other boards. There a lot of BS in the thread itself, but also a lot of different weights of different components: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopi...weight&start=0
Also, here is another thread I created as well. I got in contact with the company that makes fiberglass panels and other parts. All the info. is in this thread: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopi...ghlight=weight1992 Miata B Package

yeah the carpet padding and sterio equp.
depending if you are dragging the car or AutoXing... you may want to pull STB's if you gottem.
if you dont mind crank windows, that saves weight to pull the power window motor.
you can go like rice and pull all the carpet and door/interior panels
fiberglass hood and trunk.
pull the springs/shocks for the hood and trunk and hood latch use hood pins.
pull aux lighting like fogs.
get light weigh wheels and low profile tires.
drilled rotors
pull the wiper fluid bottle
Shorten the radiator hoses 1 gal water=5lbs there is about 6-10" of hose slack on the main lines
use a race battery
shorten electrical wiring (doesnt sound like much, but think of all the wire in the car! it will add up)
you could drain and block off/remove your heater core. the coolent and parts will add up.
dont fill your gas tank all the way
and put yourself on a diet! anyone else got ideas to add?

PUll your entire A/C system, that save 50 pounds and adds horsepower! Also the 96 intake is lighter, and the 48 gram lifters will save about a pound. You could change that solid steel bracket for the dogbone on the front of the engine to aluminum. Oh, and upgrade your cradle to the 2000 up Impala cradle, it's made of aluminum. But it also helps to redistribute weight. Put the battery in the trunkI may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Out of curiousity, how does removing the AC gain you any horse-power? If the AC is off, the pulley should freewheel on the compressor. You can spin it as freely as any idler pulley as long as it isn't binding...
Otherwise:
-Remove soundproofing underlay from carpet
-Remove spare tire, buy AAA membership
-Remove sound insulating material from firewall (usually on BOTH sides)
-Remove trunk underlay
-Use smallest battery available that satisfies consumption demand (e.g., sealed deep cycle)
-replace both coolant fans with single slimline high-output fan
For the hardcore:
-Deburr and reduce block and heads (can save a few pounds without compromising block integrity)
-Start removing strips of sheetmetal from inside door panels, reinforce doorskin with fiberglass strips
-cut hose in floorpan and replace with rivetted alum. sheets
-Have some tubular aluminum control arms fabbed up
-smaller high-torque starter
-Wonder if you could have a knuckle fabbed up out of a high-grade chunk of aluminum? Otherwise, clean up any casting flash and remove corners from stock CI knuckle.

I stripped the trunk in my 95 GP.
-SPARE TIRE 28 LBS
-JACK 7 LBS
-SOUND DEADENING, CARPET, THE BOARD THAT SETS ON TOP THE TIRE PAN AND ALL THE OTHER JUNK IN THE TIRE PAN 8 LBS
SO ALL TOGETHER I LOST 43 POUNDS.
THAT STILL DOESN'T COUNT CUTTING OUT THE TIRE PAN AND PUTTING A PIECE OF SHEET METAL IN THERE WHICH SHOULD CUT A FEW MORE POUNDS.The only thing better than GM is a GM with a 60V6 under the hood.
