Run it rich- 11.5:1 to 12.5:1. Tuning is the key to longevity. Any boost is more likely to kill your transmission long before the engine unless you have severe tuning issues. 13.5:1 may make more power, but if it ever leans out beyond that under boost or if you ever get bad gas, say goodbye to your motor. 4 psi won't be enough. I'll bet that within the first month you turn up the boost.

The 3400 bottom end should be a little stiffer than the 3.4 DOHC since it uses crossbolted mains through the oil pan. Its definetly not worse, ill put it that way Like Tim said, tuning is key. The engine itself will take quite a bit of power so long as your fuel and spark are in order. Im not sure on your exact turbo though to even guess at psi limits.

im just afraid about turning it up more than 4psi and the motor blowing....my tuner is really good but im still scared b/c the last thing i need is this motor to blow....i just got the car finished after a couple months worth of work and if it blows ill go crazy and so will my father haha....

hell i'm pushing 10-12psi (with spikes to 14psi) through a 230,000 mile 3.1 MPFI engine that has never been rebuilt. Tim is right, you will want to raise the boost. i don't know your setup but as long as you have the fuel and supporting mods i don't think it will be a problem. but then there is your transmission...

I think we all agree. If your tuner is even halfway decent (and your turbo/fueling setup is built properly), your engine will hold 5-9 psi without any problems. Start saving $$ now for your transmission rebuild though. A bit of caution: Turbos are incredibly easy to turn up the boost on. Be VERY careful about it. Getting greedy with boost will kill your engine.

You so rock. A turbo 3.4 DOHC is so cool. I bet you have all sorts of power at a wide rpm range.

Does this mean it's time to start talking smack about some L67's?

oh he could, but i don't think Tim is the type of person that would. it was actually a ClubGP dyno meet, so there were alot of L67s there. Tim easily beat all of them that weren't running nitrous IIRC. i had the only other 60*V6 car there, and even i beat the stock L67s whp and some modded L67s wtq numbers.

You have rekindled my faith in the lq1! Too bad I need something reliable and low miles to get me through college . To the l67 I go. But do not fear brothers! I shall return!

                          P.S. I love you

Somehow, fourth gear disappeared for a day and a half... It came back, but I've been told that it's an internal problem and it's fatal.
I ran across an article a year ago that discussed this issue. according to it(cant member where I found it) there is a spool in the valve body that gets slightly worn and causes this problem. Gets worse with the more heat put into it. Same article discussed a fix. Ive (wife) been driving like this for 30000 miles. BTW, awesome job on the HP numbers.

Last time I went to one of their dyno days I layed down 178 whp and they all killed me. Had Josh been there with his turbo Cutlass, he would have had 50 hp more and double to torque on his 3.1!! I definitely respect the L67, but I have too much fun with the LQ1 to give it up. Besides, I kinda like the idea of having a FWD DOHC V6 Chevy and a RWD Honda... Most people think you're crazy if you say you have a 300+ whp FWD Chevy and a RWD Honda!

The problem with talking smack to L67 guys or anybody is that the guy you talk smack to probably has a 9 second yugo... One of my only races in the Monte was two years ago right after I put on the turbo when I was running 5 psi with no intercooler and a crappy exhaust (it was still enough to beat the Z28 and GT though). The S2000 was the same way. I raced a 700+ rwhp Supra on 3 psi, no tune, and a log manifold (he walked me... hard...). The changes since each of those races in each car have been stunning.

The plan is a 97 Bonneville 4T65E rebuilt with a shift kit, hd clutches, and a few other tricks (probably a high stall speed torque converter), but retaining the 2.93:1 FDR. With that, I'll definitely be running a 97 Z34 computer and wiring harness. I'm not sure when it will all come together. My bank accounts probably won't recover enough to do anything until late winter/early spring. I'm planning on doing the swap myself, but will probably farm out any engine/tranny rebuilding that needs to be done (a dirt floored garage is probably not a good place to rebuild critical components). I have a 97 LQ1 engine, but I'm not quite sure what my plan for it is yet.
