  • Performance CV Axles

Just wondering if anyones knows of a performance axle out there for the 284 (or 4T60E, one side is the same length)? I destroyed the drivers side last night.

I've been looking on the net most of the morning but haven't found anything yet.

    Kev.

    RE: Performance CV Axles

What did you destroy, the CV joint, or the axle shaft? How many miles were on them?

Well... I used the old axles from the car, they have around 375,000 km on them , I know, way over due.

I launched hard and heard a loud clicking - banging sound from the drivers side area, now when I accelerate at any speed I get a knocking and sound and feel from there.

Oh well, at least I learned how to launch last night.

It sounds like the joint itself failed. I would say a good set of stock-replacement axles are in order. They will be a lot stronger than the high-milage stockers. Unless you are breaking good axles, I don't see the need for aftermarket racing ones.

There's a shop in Milwaukee that bvuilt my axles. They're aren't specifically labeled performance, but he builds them custom, and stronger than stock. PM me if you want some info.

Somebody clear this up for me here. I went ahead and bought two new mevotech cv axles, ripped the front end apart, removed the old axles and went to throw the new ones in - one of the new axles is wrong. I'm sure I remember hearing that both axles on the 284 are the same part number, which is one of the part numbers of the two axles for the 4T60E, right? I should have recieved two axles with the same part number for the 5 speed, not two different ones like the auto right?

The part numbers recieved were CV5249 and CV5248. The CV5248 fit so I presume that I need another one of these.

Getrag 284s have equal length driveshafts, and the one you have the is correct is the same one you need for the other side. So whatever the right part number was, get another one.

i would also agree, the drivers side cv axle from the 4T60E, is used for both left and right sides for the getrag 284, good old GM usein the parts bin,
