Ok, I just got in from driving from Oakland, CA back to Houston, TX in my 1994 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. My other car is a 92 Cutlass Supreme SL. Both have the 3.4L DOHC, why is the 92 a Pig and the 94 a Burner????
My brother was the first owner of the car, and I remember it having much more power. (of course it is about to have a 96 engine in it)
Here are my thoughts for possibilities.
1. Computer controlled transmission.
My brother says the car had much more power and go before they pulled the transmission (the 2nd time) under extended warranty. It seems to go into lockup really early. If it had an engine I would go carefully record it, but it will have to wait for the 96 to be finshed installed next week. It also had much better acceleration if you shifted manually (L1, L2, D, OD)
2. Cat and Exhaust
The 94 seems to have a happy, higher rev note. It also looks like all the exhaust comes out the two outside pipes on the muffler. (two pipes per muffler). The 94 also seems to have alot more grunt and higher revs in the high 2k low 3ks, the 92 lit off like a firecracker under near WOT, but not if you just accelerated a bit harder than normal
3. Engine
Is there really much the engine can change? Could it be the canadian engines were built better? I know the engine has a small advance with the crank sensor, ICM set up. Computer controls the fuel and a few other things. But there should be no major changes on compression, on the weight of the internals, heads, etc. The 94 has a MAF, but i am sure there are PIGS in every year.
Anyone have an idea?
I think a good chip from the store would fix most problems in #1 & 3
I really suspect the tranmission or controller. Anyone know if they had something to keep the heavy footed transmission tearer uppers from having a car that pulled hard?
