  • Shipping a car from California to Texas

Hey can anyone tell me who would be a good company (and cheap) to ship a car from San Fransico/Oakland California to Houston Texas? or hook me up, or any other suggestions. Right now i think it is going to be plane flight, tons of driving an unknown Olds Cutlass Supreme.

If I were buying it, I'd want to drive it back. Cheapest, and you get to learn the car. (Take tools, if you can.)
If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

        Ok, thanks for the tips

I ended up flying out there for 170 and driving it back.. ugh.. over 48 hours

But it is home, and ran well, after 2 Qts of Mobil 1 and a Qt of transmission fluid

Hmm, a 1994 Cutlass Supreme Convertible with only 77,000 miles..

alot! I was told the pressure hose on the gas tank tended to pop off, so i should only fill it 3/4s full. lets see.. 2000 miles (ok about 10 less than that) 5 or 6 stops for gas, 4 stops for food, 10 stops for drinks and bathrooms (top wouldn't come down and the a/c wasn't working until i fixed it half way there) 1 stop in Las Cruces, NM to visit a friend, get a free massage and have lunch, one stop in Ozona, Texas to spend the night. Oh and one stop by your friendly nieghborhood Department of Public Safety official (for those of you that havent been to the south, that is the State Police)

ended up taking 53 hours all said and done, 5 hours of plane flight, 2 hours of getting the car/title/ect, 8 hours of hotel, and about 8 hours of stopping (a good hour in Las Cruces with the A/C) leaving 30 hours driving time. Yahoo had it at 27hours 50 minutes. oh well, in the old days i could have done it total in about 32.

That's a long ride and hotel and plane tickets, food you may of spent what the shipping cost would have been.

not even close.. everyone wanted like 1000 or 1100 dollars to ship it. I spent 148 bucks on the ticket (plus about $19 on taxes and fees) 180 bucks worth of gas, some odd food and 40 bucks on a motel

One meal was free and I got to see a good friend in Las Cruces. I spent 20 on Oil and Transmission fluid ( i am changing both so that is a partial loss) and 15 on some R-134a that appears to have partially leaked out. even if I included food and the day of work i couldn't make up, I still spent ALOT less. Only thing that would have thrown that off would have been something breaking.
