  • Casting marks on the crank

Can I take the grinder to them and make the crank surfaces smooth, or leave em be? Id have the crank balanced later on anyway but I am looking to make the crank as strong as possible.

checkout 'how to build and modify chevrolet small block v-8 pistons, rods & crankshafts'. it's part of motorbooks international power pro series and written by david vizard 'the wizard'. there's a detailed guide on where and how to grind on a small block v8 cast crank that could easily apply to our cast cranks. it covers stock rod prep too. very sweet book. i picked mine up at b daltons. i think waldenbooks has it also. if it's not in stock, they can get it for you-or you could get it online, of course.

all the book in the powerpro series are great and most everything can be applied to our sixes.
