  • piston/valve clearence

i have read that the piston/valve clearence for the 91-95 motors is there(like 10 thousandths or something like that) but not for the 96-97 motors.

if i was wondering when rebuilding my motor and if i use 91-95 pistons with 96-97 heads, i should get that clearence back correct?

i was thinking instead of such a minimal boost in compression, id rather have that cushion there.

just some ideas kicking around in my head like socks in a dryer, plz humor me.

you might get the learence back, but mabye not. i thought the difference in compression was due to the change in the head design. not so much in the pistons. but then i dont know a lot about the tdc.

i am not a hardcore engineer guy but i have seen a little info that leads me to believe both is due to compression gain. the 96-97 pistons are taller and have more of a positive dome which i believe adds compression too. plus as u say the heads have smaller chambers.

what i don't know is where the valves sit in relation to the older heads, this is all speculation but i think it may be a good chance the valves sit in the same spot as on the older heads and if some1 went to older pistons they would get that clearence back and still have a little compression gain(maybe 9.5:1).

which is the main reason for posted this, to find out if i would get that clearence back.

how much each adds however is a mystery to me, maybe .25 each?
