  • Update to cam timing under DOHC performance site info

I have set my motor to 6 adv intake, 6 retard exhaust. You can check out my thoughts here.

Any questions, let me know. I just got it set last night so I haven't checked the computer tuning yet nor have I tested it with a stock chip (and I wont, stock sucks).

I read your write up and i will totally reference it when it comes time but i have a question.

I couldnt tell if you were saying if the engine now was better down low or better up high or both?

The top end was better than stock but it wasn't as nice as the 13 exhaust retard. If I have to guess, id say it shifted the powerband down about 400 RPM vs 13 degree exh retard. The bottom end is much better than the 13 degree timing, and was better than stock as well. I personally think GM should have made the 6/6 timing stock cause it works so well with the automatic.

I was thinking of trying that. Is this on a 97 or 91-95? 96 im uncertain of its stock cam timing though I side on the 91-96 idea.

            I am still confused.....

On the writeup, it looks like you set the timing with the crank set forward 13*; so was that with TDC #1 with the cams flat?

I thought the crank should look like stock pic, TDC #1, with adjustments made on the cam flats?

            Am I stupid?

Yeah, in the write up I didn't have any special timing tool to use for timing. Either way works as long as you know how far to go on the crank if you do it like I did in the write up.

This was on a 97 with +4 set in cams. So I added another +4 to make intake cams +8*
