  • Top speed limiter?

Is there any way to remove the top speed limiter on this engine? I was testing out the top speed with my car today and once it hits 110 mph it feels like the tranny shifts gears again but the speed stays at 110 mph. I know there is usually a way to remove the limit on most engines (cutting the VSS line or a performance chip). Would cutting the VSS line work on this engine? If so, where is it located exactly on a 95 GTP? Also what kind of top speeds are possible with a completly stock 3.4 DOHC? Thanks in advance for the help.

Just get it reprogrammed or I could do it but I need the hole ecu. I have all the stuf to reprogram a 90-95 ecu (OBD1) not 2 yet.

    96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.

i can do the 95 without the computer. I am still testing the 94-95 chips for performance but I can set limiters and such already no problem. I wouldn't mess with the VSS though others have with sucess. I prefer to let the computer know the speed.

Cool. What would it cost to have just the limiter removed and how would I go about getting the chip out and to you? How much faster do you think the DOHC is capable of going? Based on other cars I have drove and the way the DOHC drives I would guess I would be able to get it up to about 125-130 MPH without too much effort..... hopefully without blowing anything up. Thanks.

Around 135 to 145 i just need the ecm to interface with.

I would do just the limiters and fan turn on for $60, 25 if you send me your memcal. I have to use adapters so that increases my cost. If you can wait, I will be selling a performance chip later on once I get better dyno results (or I will just finish up the chip that is designed for no MAF screen, since that had good gains already). Im really wanting to mess with the shift points before I sell the performance chip ($125). Also, my sales support the site since I own the site and the store. I don't need your ECM to interface with.

Would buying the performance chip from you (when available) require me to send in my chip, cause the performance chip would probably be the better route if I don't have to go without a vehicle for a few days/weeks. Does pulling the screen in the MAF have any performance benefits without the chip? Good luck with the progress on the chips, and might I add, excellent job on the site, very informative. Thanks again for the info.

Nope, if you bought a chip off me, you wouldn't have to send me anything. Its an adapter that you plug your stock chip into, and then it uses the new chip on the board yet keeps the knock sensor filter and backup resistors off the stock chip.

Im not sure what the results are of the motor with no screen on a stock chip. I know the tuning is way off which is all I was trying to do. It made 5 or 6 more hp but was really rich with my chip, so we are going to cut the fuel and see what that yields. I wasn't able to gain anything so far with the screen in place, though I may be able to get a few hp out of it with the screen on. I think everyone would prefer more hp with the screen gone though and my tuned chip for the screen removed.

For sure, whatever it takes to get the most I can afford to get out of this engine. I know the evgine has alot of potential, just have to find a way to unlock it. I will probably just wait patiently for you to finish up with the chip and then rip out my screen and sell it to the nazis. I can't really see what difference the screen would make though, I mean, yeah it might slightly restrict airflow but other than that..? Either way, I'm all for the performance chip with or without the screen. Thanks again.
