  • TDC Rebuild Continues: ARP Rod/Main bolts?

Good evening gentlemen. Search isn't coming up with much so I figure I'll ask you guys. I'm currently picking out parts for my 3.4L TDC (91' Olds/Auto) and I was wondering if you can use ARP rod bolts from a 2.8L for the TDC? I'm not seeing a 3.4 TDC specific listing (imagine that!). I figure with the 7000 RPM thing it can't hurt, maybe keep those pesky rod bearings from going around the wrong way and all that.

I'm under the assumption that the rods (and the bolts holding them together) are essentially the same between the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4OHV and 3.4 DOHC, is this correct?

In addition to that, is there an ARP part number for the main studs for these things? That windage tray may make it a unique application which they don't have a part for. Thanks again, guys.

See, I looked for ARP head studs and all that stuff and didnt come up with anything either. I am interested in seeing where this thread goes, as I thought the same question about weather or not the 2.8 ARP studs would work or not.

2.8 ARP rod bolts will work.

Thank you RacerX11. I just looked at GMpartsdirect, and they list the exact same part for con rods on all 60v6 motors - even including the recent (2004) stuff.

I figure if I had to pick one place to use ARP on, the rods would be it due to the stress they get from inertial loading in addition to piston loading. Then there's the whole 7000 RPM thing, too. As for main bearing studs/bolts - I don't think they'll have anything that'll accomodate the windage tray eh?

The off-the-shelf ARP main studs wouldn't be long enough to accomodate the tray. You might just need the specs on the standard 2.8 ARP main studs, then get some about 1" longer for the tray. You would then need to drill out the mounting holes on the tray to fit the bigger studs, since the stock bolts have a smaller threaded stud on the end for the tray.
