  • header question

is it possible to make stepped headers for v6's? i know you can for 4 bangers and v8's b/c there are 4 tubes.

is so, what configuration would they be in? 3-1 and 3-2-1?

you mean like a "tri-y" design? it would be kinda odd on a v6. youd have a sort of unbalanced thing going on, so i dont think the performance benifit would be noticable.

i''m trying to understand to much at once, so if this gets stupid, smack me.

so what is scavanging, exactly? isnt it using the exhaust force from one primary to help draw the exhaust gasses out of the next one? how does this work when most engines firing orders dont match up like this? wouldnt that mean we should really have cyl 1, 2, and 3 on one header, and 4, 5, 6 on the other? 1 would kinda create suction for 2, and 2 for 3, and so on.

i edited, i was probably to slow, cuz i suck.

i know with the hondas 4cy inline you can do that with a good benefit, but you have all 4, right there, in a row on 1 side, so the scavenging effect is much greater in comparison to other types of motors because they fir the cyl everyother, so 1-3-2-4, and all next to each other in a colector makes good sence cuz each one scavenges the other 3, the "tri-y" or i guess stepped, you scavenge by pairs? i dont get that. i dunno how you can manage that on a v6, or even how a v8 would benifit, it doesnt make sense to me how you can get a good scavanging effect if one cylinder fires "over there on that side" and the next one to fire is "over here on this side". i guess i have more reading to do.
