  • dual to single exhaust

i was wondering if changing the exhaust from a fake dual to a single outlet would affect anything. and if not, whats a few good choices of mufflers. thanks

It shouldn't affect performance as long as you have good pipe. It will probably change the sound (for the worse), but I was reading in a post somewhere about a Flowmaster(?) muffler that was designed for that, and is suppose to sound really good.
If I were to make single exhaust, I'd have the pipe exit out the side before the rear tire with a rectangle tip.. that would look cool

It changes the exhaust note. I am using a single 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust with a flowmaster 40 series. I love the sound, except when its cold it gets a bit raspy at a small RPM range.

Is that on the Cutlass?? I remember the GP still having the duals. Didnt that car have a 2.5" exhaust too?

Well, if you wanted to lighten up the car a bit, and not leave that one cutout open on the other side of the car where the other muffler would have been, you could alwyas get a muffler designed for a F-Body and just route a pipe over to the other side to save some weight instead of having another muffler over there..

And there sure isn't any shortage of F-Body aftermarket mufflers out there...

Its easy enough to cover any cutout spots with fibreglass, and it will hold strong too. Just as long as you want to do some painting as well.

ok i am planning on removing everything from the cat back, installing high flow cat, 2.5 inch tubing into a magnaflow or flowmaster, what difference other than sound would this have over the stock exhaust?

                performance and less weight.

Its on the cutty, cause I took it off the GP I got rid of the Y split too.

tuning kinda fixed that, its only raspy to 2-2.5k when its warming up. Its much mellower than it used to be when it warms up.
