  • DOHC mods for 2k5

What mods are the dohc crowd planning for 2k5?

i have broken mine down into stages. stage1 is lower intake p&p(underway), plenum p&p(underway), 75mm tb and fabbed to match 75mm intake arm(installed).

stage 2 head porting(en quene), valve job(en quene), chip(soon to be underway), 160 stat(recieved but waiting for chip)

stage 3 underdrive pulley for alt, 85mm MAF, zzp mini afc , extrude hone the plenum, and have a tuning session for cam timing.

i plan on having everything in stage 1 and 2 done this year and stage 3 maybe, maybe not. of course all this is dependant on if the car does not require any major maintainence in between.

provided i get everything in stages 1 and 2 done i am hoping for 14.5 or lower and when i get the n20 going again i am shooting for 14.3 or lower. maybe a bit ambitious but i will see.

p.s. bazooka tubes and decals don't count.

      RE: DOHC mods for 2k5

I've already redone my exhaust (3" to dual 2.5" mandrel), intercooler piping, and installed a piggyback. Coming soon are bigger injectors, WBO2, and more boost.

Well... I want to finish this car up performance wise, so I figure these things may help(if you haven't allready, click the link to my cardomain page for the current mod list, it's fairly lengthy):

Unsure what downpipe size yet, but 2.5" exhaust back, high flow cat, mufflers undecided, home built

96-97 Intake swap (should be getting a good TB here soon, upper intake and arm are prepped and waiting to be powdercoated)

            UDP

Truc CAI located in the fenderwell

Might ditch the AC system this summer, still undecided on that yet though.

Other than that, fixing up my suspension, fixing some rust, and finishing converting the interior to all black.

ok, it's 1/2 way done. so where is every1 so far in 2k5?

i have done the following this year: intake ported, plenum ported, 75mm intake arm, 75mm tb, chip, 160 stat, ffp udp, 10% ud alt, 10% ud wp, ported exhaust manifolds, 97 cam box swap and dogbone.

only thing i have not committed to that is on my list for this year is the head porting but i still remember it . as it looks now, it seems i have gone beyond my expectations for this year(my expectations being stages 1 and 2).

so based on that i have a new setup to follow now.

stage1 head porting redo exhaust a little and redo my CAI(this year)

stage2 lsd, valve body kit, finish building new motor and cam timing session

stage3 good set of slicks, extrude hone plenum, zzp mini afc, 85mm maf and extrude hone plenum.

I have the injectors and wideband O2 and also a 96 computer and wiring harness. I'll be happy to have all of that done by the end of the year. First, I have to chase down some rattles with the S2000 turbo setup and then add some sound deadening.

ahhhh, i see u have or will go to obd2 after all. i have a pcm/harness sitting in a box as well from a 96. but i am waiting for different reasons. that will be for when i eventually go to a fiero swap. i figured obd2 would be best for eventual boost(this is all really long term, i didn't even mention it in my planning) since it has the best of both worlds for boost tuning, a MAF to monitor airflow and a MAP to monitor boost pressure. that and a faster processor to make A/F changes faster and pull more samples per second for better tuning(not to mention the stuff out for the pcms).

and just to throw it out there, 96 setups are not that hard to find. just wait for a mymonte member to do a l67 swap and capitalize .

1 question for you timg. are you using a 4t60e with the 325+ crank hp you have now?

I sure am. I would consider a 97 computer swap if I decided to upgrade to a 65e, but I think the 60e should take care of me. I've been talking with Charles at DHP and while the 96 computer won't be able to see boost (I'll need a check valve), I should be able to datalog the input from a GM 3 bar MAP sensor and a Wideband O2 sensor with the PowrTuner a/d input. I'll probably wait to upgrade PCM's until I pull the motor for a rebuild. Until then, I'll install the injectors and wideband O2 and then tune with the FTC1 on my 95 PCM.

that's awesome. over 320 crank hp and the internals and the tranny is doing good. i like it.

My Plans were to finish the turbo project. Those are still my plans, but running two jobs leaves me little time to do so. So, ill be saving up money and when I get some time to work on the beast I will. Unfourtunatly I was hoping to be done long before now, but money and time has really owned me. Since I will be taking longer on this project, I have compiled a list of things that will be done as Im finishing up with the turbo install:

Water/Alcohol Injection, exhaust wrap, bigger fuel injecters and better fuel pump.

Probably mess around with the timing also to pull a few more horses out of her.

Once the car is running these will be my next steps:

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and organize everything and make it all look presentable to all the kids in Apple Valley who hang out with their cars and love to look turbo/super charged engines.

Invest into a laptop, with a program to tune and an ALDL cable and WBO2 sensor for some major tuning.

I plan on re-doing my entire fuel system making it all custom fuel rails lines pump etc.

Then, get a bigger compressor housing for the turbo, a better IC, and re-do the intake piping based on some calculations I learned in physics.

Re-do the exhaust system the same way, making custom turbo manifolds with new and better quality crossover.

Thats probably enough to last me through next summer, hopefully by then I will have enough money to move onto a V8 and enter the world I have dreamed of. If not, ill continue my venture into the beastly LQ1 and see where she takes me.

I can't believe I haven't replied to this yet. For me it's make a force feeding cold air can. I've just about got those factory injectors maxed out, a little more cold air should do the trick...

Otherwise, I just want it to stay together till winter, then it gets torn apart again to replace the cam carriers with a better oiling set of them, maybe new valve springs, maybe something different with the exhaust, and hopefully OBDII.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

wow, it seems my direction has changed drastically since i posted this thread. little did i know i would end up with 2 POS used motors.

i have done the following this year: intake ported, plenum ported, 3kstall, 75mm intake arm, 75mm tb, chip, 160 stat, ffp udp, 10% ud alt, 10% ud wp, ported exhaust manifolds, 97 cam box swap and dogbone.

update: a/c delete, total exhaut redo, aluminum timing cover(enquene), billet serpentine tensioner(enquene), complete engine rebuild with balancing, 1mm over pistons plus a couple other things(enquene), little weight reduction.

final plans for this year are redo my CAI/RAM AIR INTAKE, swap on some earlier/stiffer springs, custom cam covers to match the timing cover, billet a/c delete pulley, change cam timing and tuning tuning tuning.

fate has been cruel this year but hopefully the cruelness has ended and it is time to be nice . if i can accompolish the following this year i will be thrilled and maybe i can start some of the more hardcore shit next spring.
