  • Better Cams

I have 2 full sets of cams... One is from a 91 Lumina and another from a 95 Monte. What set is better? Is there a difference? I ask because the set from the 91 have a dark grey look on the lobes and everything and the set from the 95 are brown from oil and shiny on the lobes. I'm not too sure but I have never seen cams that where all grey.

    Kinda Wierd?

    RE: Better Cams

the 95 cams are better by far. 1st what i have heard from rumor is they deliver a flatter tq curve. next is fact from a tuning stand point. to adjust 91-93 cams i believe they have to be partially removed to unlock them and the 95 cam, all you have to do is remove a washer on the front of the cam gear to unlock them. but i think you will need the 94-95 cam carriers to take advantage of that feature.

to be honest, i am not really sure if you can put 94-95 cams in 91-93 carriers.

Thats cool. I have the carriers for both. I have 2 complete engines. So I can just drop the 95 cam carriers onto the 91 heads then? Thanx for the info.

You know, now that you bring that up, I have noticed a much flatter torque curve on mine too. I have a 92 3.4 with 95 cams. I originally put them in for timing because they are so much easier to work with, but I haven't been able to explain why my power kicks in so much lower than any other 3.4 I have had. There could be something to that.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.
