  • Adjustable Cam Gear Interest

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but would anyone be interested in adjustable cam gears similar to the following?

I'm on a CAD kick right now, but I'm currently drawing a blank of what to draw up. Then I came across these... Figure you guys might be interested if we got these designed and Ben started selling them on the site.

Just let me know the interest. If it seems good, I'll see if I can get someone to measure a stock gear for me and I'll go from there, designing it similar to the above design.

    RE: Adjustable Cam Gear Interest

i think that is an even better idea that the adjustable hold down tool. that is simply amazing. i dont think i would buy them because i would rather put the money towards something else on my car and adjust the timing the "old" way. but i think it is a really good idea, as long as those bolts dont start slipping and adjust the the timing while its running, lol. im sure alot of people would want them , i think its a great idea.

It's a great idea but not cheap. My tuner had an idea of making these last year and had them CAD'ed. Because of how small the gear is and the relativley large cam end, it was going to be very difficult to build, and expensive to produce. If you could make them that would be awesome but I'm going towards the adjustable cam tool.

Good luck though, really interested to see how they turn out if you make them!

What I'd be interested in is an adapter to shorten the throw of the 5 speed, I'd be in for one of those.

Definatly a very interesting consept. I dont' know what i'd like better between those and the adjustable cam tool. Probably would come down to the price difference between the two. Any cluse on how much a set of those would cost?

There seems to be a pattern there.

Very good, I would like a set.

I just got my old lumy Z back. I paid 1200 bucks for it to be forfeited back into my hands.

I think I'd also be more interested in a short throw shifter for the 5-speeds. Seems like a great idea though!

I think ill stick to what we have stock, full adjustable. If someone can't do it the old way, I doubt they are going to instead, pull everything off and swap on this different set. It would be nice to have them made but I don't think its practical.

I assume this adjustable cam tool is something for adjusting the timing? But Why wouldn't you just make some kind of jig for our cams. So you can measure the degree increments. Then you can throw in a set of 94-95 cam gears with the wedge washer lock system (if you don't already have them). Wouldn't that be cheaper?

I thought about having an adjustable set. I would really like to be able to adjust my cam timing without having to pull all that stuff off of the top of the motor. I would love a set of those.

i would be if a. they were $400 or less b. made of 7071 aluminum or better and hence being lighter than the originals c. if you made an aluminun version of the drive gear to go with them.

Well, I need originals (or at least VERY detailed dimensions) to start with. If someone has a spare set they can send me, I can get started on at least drawing them up. From there, I can talk to some machine shops about getting them made, and the cost associated with it.

I'd be interestred, but only because I am racing my car and easy timing adjustments would be a plus. I think I want to get better cams first, but if you want I have a spare 96 set, and 93RegalGS may have one too.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

u will have a tough time running different cam grinds without better springs unless you shim the ones you have but i don't have alot of faith in shimming.

u wouldn't happen to have a set of 96-97 lifters laying around or know some1 that does? i need to borrow 3 of them for like a day.

I'll take the spare set if you have it. DOHCfiend also mentioned the drive gear, so if you have a spare of that as well, I'd take it also. I should only need them for a week or so. If interested, PM or email me.
