  • SOMEone has reground CHRfab cams; how do they work?

saw a note on PFF indicating that someone has gone ahead and gotten a set of cams done by CHRfab. I have spent a couple of hours searching thru here and can't figure out who it is. I contacted the company and they said "yes they do them", but the emails are typically pretty short on info; with no indication of doing another set.

So.........who is it, what specs did you use, are they installed yet and and if so, what are the impressions? Hope this is right.

I do plan on sending a set to CHRfab myself but it will be once my swap-in is running right, not before, so maybe later summer...

RE: SOMEone has reground CHRfab cams; how do they work?

not many or any peeps yet have had the $$$ or the info or the balls to take such a risk yet.

what year engine do you have? if it is a 91-95 there is a flowbench chart up on here by dmotorsports do a search for it copy it, paste it and try to decipher the numbers with an image editor and give it to them. it will help them greatly when deciding on a grind. it also might help to get all the clearences off of here for them as well as the stock grind info.

if you have a 96-97 engine it would be best to have them flowbenched or find some1 to do it for you that has a set laying around. unfortunately the 96-97 grind info or the clearences are not on here so you will be on your own in finding that.(if you find the info, hook me up). hope this helps.

p.s. ask around and find out what rpm the engine get it's max torque and hp from, it used to be in the specs but it is gone since the site update. the more info they have the better job they will be able to do.

They aren't installed yet, thats all I know on the cams. I used to have the specs but have misplaced them. I know lift was close to stock, duration was up a lot. (280 adv I think).

thanks Ben, I thought it was you but can't find the pff thread now. Any idea when they will be up and running and is there some way to get the specs? Even going back to CHRfab? I do intend to send mine down so any solid info like that will be pretty important. I assume that anything OTHER than stock lift will require consideration on the lifters and lash caps? Any idea what is happening there?
        thanks!

oh yeah; dohcfiend: I have a 92. Two going on three, in fact. W/5spd 284s and corresponding ECMs etc. I guess why all the interest is that I want to get my swap-in going as well as possible first in NA mode; then see what I think. I am sure that will eat up this year. I have been working on (one of two) intake designs and can't decide how complex I want to get from a controls point of view, so that is a background item in my mind, but the biggie is whether or not I will pursue going with a turbo.... which opens up a whole NEW bag of snakes. So first things first.

I doubt they will be installed any time soon as the owner lost all interest in the project. CHR came up with the specs though, based on the information I gave them for a powerband desired. I would talk to them about specs as they should have a pretty good idea.

              thx, Ben
is there any info that I can pass along to them to make it easier for them to find that particular job? Date; a name; anything? Do you remember what year and if it was for a manual or auto etc?

I got a couple of emails from them and then it dried up; I don't blame them; everyone wants to talk so I am just another talker to them.......
so if I can give them something definite maybe they will be willing to look up the prev. job.
If you prefer to PM it or whatever pls do; I can understand that someone might not want to get bombarded by questions etc.
              thx

It was under my name, Ben Phelps. I told them automatic, mid and top end power. They came up with the specs so they better be able to figure it out again. I would just tell them your application and go from there.
