you can get up to 0.040 over very reasonable on pistons. a easy way to gain compression is to put 96-97 heads on a pre 96 engine. they have smaller chambers i believe and the pistons are different on the previous years. they have a taller compression height. i don't know the specifics but it might be something you might want to look into.

If you are asking about porting intakes and heads, do a gasket match for the lower intake to plenum, and blend it in a bit inside the port. For the heads, you will either want a set to practice on, or have someone with experience port them. There are a lot of theories to learn if you wanna get into it, and a good die grinder and lots of various bit and sand paper rolls will help out greatly.

Well, I ported and polished my Yamaha Banshee and it turned out awsome. I use a dremal to do all the work, I have the little wand to get into tight spots and alot of different bit's to use.

It will take forever to do the heads that way, nor is it the best for anything other than detail work. The small bits make it harder to make the entire port even all the way around. I don't recommend it but you can clean up the casting flaws at the very least anyway.
