Anyone know, or have any idea how a 3.4 reacts to being run with open headers?

Question about Headers

I believe that I might be the only one who can answer this...
First, I ran the car for about 20 miles without any exhaust. Just the headers, and collectors. My 02 sensor was in place temproarily at the time, but I moved it after finishing the downpipe. There was no downpipe on the front exhaust, it let out its gasses right above the tranny. None on the rear either, it let out right below the subframe. It sounded like ass. I shifted right off idle, and I truly was embarrassed. It rattled and rasped like no other, complete ass. Then I nailed it, and my ears started echoing at 3,000rpm, so I stopped. I couldn't take the volume, it was SOOOOOO loud. So I put in some ear plugs, and ran it to 5500 rpm. It had a lot of power, but after completing the downpipes and hooking up the exhaust, it felt the same if not quicker. So I am going to say it is not worth the earplugs, the insulting looks at the track fromt he awful sound, all for waht didn't even seem faster. I also discourage cutouts for the same reasons, as I also ran the car with the donpipes and final collector in lace with no exhaust, with the same results.
Hope this helps

mine may not be a 3.4L but I know from at the drag strip I slowed down whenever I ran mine with open headers.
I made mine with extra collector down turns to run them open. always resulted in poorer launches, powerband didnt hit until at least 5,000rpm. timeslips were always about .2-.3 tenths off. MPH would suffer hardcore.Colin

When I ran my 3.4 with open headers, it sounded sweet at idle, almost like a pro-stock dragster..but under any load it sounded like total A$$.
