Well, it can't hurt. OK here's the best way to get awesome gains from a drop-in K&N. First you take your old air filter out and paint it with one or two coats of oil based paint nice and thick. Make sure it isn't on the engine side of the filter (bottom). Then, let it dry and reinstall.

Next thing, drive your car for a day or two with your modified factory filter. It may not run but all the better.

Better, why? You ask. Because when you drop that K&N in there, you will have 210HP more that stock. Now those are good numbers, better than a supercharger. Oh, yeah!!!!

Just kidding. But I think you get the point. You will NEVER get more than a few HP from an intake. K&N are a good investment cause they are reusable and have good filteration. You probably won't notice any power gains to speak of.

True Cold Air, or Ram Air is the best way.

I have mine for sale, grabs air from the fenderwell. 3" powdercoated mandrel bent aluminum. See my thread, located here:

There are noticeable power gain. arround 5-8 HP, i don't know for sure, i never dynno that. And you guys can be more specific, are you talking K&N Filter in factory box or Cone K&N Filter with NO factory Box, That is a big diffrence

The filter sounds better and if you put the K&N sticker on the side of your car I hear it will add even more hp.

yeah "Vinyl Adds Horsepower" i just have all the stock piping for now with the entire airbox taken out and a K&N cone filter. probably not better HP but my engine is louder and better gas mileage

There is a negligible difference on hp if any at all between a short ram intake and CAI. This has been tested in the past, if you search I am sure you'll be able to track down articles relating to it. From things that I have read in the past (wish I could remember where), is that a larger power gain was generated by extracting the hot air underneath the hood than running a ram air setup. As far as the K&N itself. about the only benefit is that it's reusuable. This is in part because it is a panel filter, and it really isn't going to increase airflow capacity as much as say a cone filter will. In my opinion just get a short ram, you have less hassle installing that versuses installing the CAI.

I doubt that. Ram air will always be at ambient temps, and a good ram air setup will overcome restrictions caused by turns in the intake pipe.

I'm comparing my CAi to my warm air. There was a huge difference, in power and in the sound of the motor afterwards. I was surprised that it made as much of a difference as it did.

if you throw the batt in the trunk

some 4G or thicker wire Ide assume

                        a cone filter

                        PVC pipe.

Some ring clamps and rubber couplers and the such

Ide run some cheap dryer hose from the TB to wherever you want the cone to rest, then tape up the hose so its stiff, then go buy the PVC pieces that match the rout best.
