  • Thank you DOHC community

Well I finally got my engine out of the car. And I just wanted to thank you for all of your help. I don't think I would of even tried it with out this site. My Monte.com and W-body.com are cool, but this site is definately the one that made it for me.

Now that it is out I feel like I have lost my virginity....
But now comes the hard part, relationship.
I am going to do the normal stuff. change the gaskets, O2 sensor, and new Catalitic converter.

The stuff I would like to do is...

    Put in rear disk brakes.
change the tranny final ratio to the 3.1 motor version.
deck the heads maybe 10/1000th of an inch
get the g-stop ss lines for the brakes.
and finally put in some nitrous until a supercharger is figured out(or turbo)

thanks ben, FFP and dyke*dave for all your help.

If you ever want Napa Valley wine just let me know, I am a wine grower.

Sweet, glad we could help Are you changing out part of the final drive with the 3.1 stuff, or going to 3.33 instead of 3.43?

Didn't even mention me....And I post double the amount of anyone here. Now take into account my posts count half as much as everyone elses since I am OCCCASIONALLY wrong, and I post equal to everyone.

        Ah I win again!

I'm so glad this site is what it is. As much bullshit is talked about and argued upon, we do learn a lot by arguing. I mean look at the threads at W-body and Mymonte, the ones about engines don't even get replies becuz no one knows anything. That is why I love it here. Since most of us work on things ourselves, many peopel get into the same boat that I(or someone else) has been in before.

I believe is he going to swap in the 3.33 differential and sun gear to achieve the 3.73 overall FDR. At least, that's what we talked about.

Well, I was thinking about the 3.33 and sun gear, but am I going to need special tools for that?
I have a mechanic friend here in napa that rebuilt the 4t60-E for his final at school and he can help me.

Oh yeah, and thanks Aaron You do post alot. It kinda sucks that I can't help more with the community with awnsering Q's but I am just a farmer and all.

I should probably post in Trans section about the FDR or do a search for the best rebuild kit.

The only thing that went wrong when pulling the engine was that I left one bolt on the motor mount that the P side axle goes through, so I had to pull the axle again and fluid went everywhere...got some cat litter for that.

Can I just put a new boot on the outer tie rod and ball joints or should I just get replacements for a total of $200?

I got the new Cat welded on and bolted up before pulling engine, it looks nice.

If the ball joints were good but you cut the boots prying them out...you can just put some grease in there and use some silicone (or weatherstrip rubber like stuff like I did) on them. For the tie rod ends, if those aren't bad either but the boots are messed up, you can get new boots and call it a day. If you have any doubts though about either, I would replace them for peace of mind.

I don't think you'll need any special tools for it. Try PM'ing gpse3400 as he has done this to his tranny before.
