I am planning to make a set of headers for my 93 Z34, but am wondering the best size for the primaries and collectors. I was thinking 1 5/8" primaries with a 2.5" collector. What do you think? Thanks in advance for any input.

From what Aaron did with the 30" primaries, I'm gonna try and squeeze in 34", and have the collector for the rear somewhere under the car, in front of the cat, where the two will combine, then stock pipes with prolly magnaflow mufflers.1993 Lumina Z34 - Broke Yet Again

Yes 1 5/8" primaries are best, with a 2.25" collector for the frotn and the rear, with a 2.5" exhaust IMO. I would go longer than 30", I will be doing 36 for the Fiero, but these will also be 1.75" primaries and 2.5" collectors. For the back, I doubt you will be able to get the 3 pipes all of the way down the downpipe cutout without going over 40" in length. I highly doubt it. Meanign you might have to have a collector in your downpipe, and that sucks. Good luck, if ya need any help feel free to ask.

Good luck finding a GOOD header kit, with stainless steel pipes, a 6" long 3-1 collector, etc for less than 400.
However there is no need to buy specific header pipes, just buy mandrel bends in the desired diameter of turn, diameter of pipe(1 5/8"), and gauge and they will work fine.
From experience, I would suggest buying 8 J-bends(with long tails), 4 U-bends, and about 2 feet of straight pipe. I had BARELY enough pipe for mine, but mine also have long primaries and the rears have very radical curves as well. Headers By Ed's V6 kit comes with too many U-bends, not enough J-bends, and WAY too much straight pipe. Maybe for a like a inline mounted RWD, but not in our situation.

Aaron, did you make your own headers? What type of material did you use? I may look into building one, and would like to see what has been done by others. Has anyone just built a set of log headers for this platform? They are simple to make, and should flow much better than the restrictive stock manifolds.
Just trying to learn what others have done.

Well my Fiero motor is going to be a bit more than stock.
36" long priamries at 1.75" diameter. All equal length, and the fronts equal to the backs. 2.5" collectors, and then those two converge into a single 3", which i will run into a Magnaflow Camaro muffler, then dual 2.5" out the back. It is either that or a true dual, but I don't think there will be enough room for two 2.5" exhausts/mufflers. I'd like to get a resonator in there, but I also doubt that.
When i build the Fiero headers to sell(DOHC 3.4L), they will be 36" and 1 5/8" diameter, 2.25" collectors.
