Well think of it this way. It's not a 96 or 97, so you won't have any bent valves

hehe... way to look at the bright side. I just got finished retiming (I can do it in 20 minutes now and now it seems to run good, I just have a massive vacuum leak causing it to hit the rev limiter... no doubt because of my new short runner intake - which I might just have to have welded up instead of f*cking with silicone and acrylic

Youre getting knock retard at 17* ??

Hmmm... I'm at roughly 16* and havent noticed any pinging, but could be beyond my range of hearing / feeling. Was the KR coming in at high/low rpm, wot only?? Any idea why it was getting KR?

After I did the heads I was plannin on 18* or so. I can't complain about the low end at 16* its still freakishly okay, even with the 96 manifolds. Idle isnt even bad, its just rough compared to before, although if I let it idle for 5 mins or so it gets a mean sounding lope. Down low its not as good as stock, but its not bad and over 2500 it starts to feel better than before and of course after 4k and up to 7k its a big improvement.

It was part throttle and WOT, and I couldn't hear it but the scanner showed it.

I had as much low end as you would expect from a DOHC, as the general idea of our low end is. As far as what I thought I should have, it was pathetic. Now with 13 degrees the low end is MUCH better and no KR

I jst retarded my exhaust and intake cams both 13 degrees retartedand the thing is so incredibly fast i also ported and polished my intake and plenum and throtle body and i shaved 3.3 seconds off of my 0-60 time. it has tons of low end and it pulls incredibly hard and it hits high speeds much faster now! i recomend doing both exhaust and intake 13 degrees!

its after, when i say i just did it i mean 2 months ago. I also put bigger exhaust pipes and performance mufflers on it. and im getting a chip in January. Has anybody else tried doing the intake cams? at first it was a mistake that i did both of them but i figured that i would try it and after the first test drive i knew i was keeping it! it has a ton of low end torque and i cant keep the tach needle off the redline. when you put it to the floor you are plastered back in the seat. it idles at 1000 rpm nice and loopy and throatier. it never stalls. it was such a BIG difference in power it was unbelievable!

um....yeah. Thats why it ran like ass when I had them at 6 degrees retarded. Retarded timing hurts low end, so im calling bullshit.

unless the intake cams spin opposite then the exhaust and i advanced the intake cams 13 degrees? because its really fast and tons of low end.
