  • 3.4 custom intake

I was just laying in bed, with all kinds of visions running through my head. I couldn't sleep, this idea kept me awake: I was wondering if anyone had tried to take a pipe, weld a cap on one end, a flange on the other, bolt on a TB from a later model F-body, and bolt it to a stock LIM on a LQ1. I think it would probably work, and not lose a ton on the low end, and flow a shitload more air. What do you think?

i think it would kill torque, low end, and flow pretty well. I am doing something like that, but not cutting out any runner length. LT1 TB is the plan.

If it would kill low end torque that bad, it would prolly be better to go to a 5 speed then, rather than my auto.

1 question, why a double blade tb? any particular reason?

Well, my original plan was to go with two intake pipes, one for the front bank and one for the rear. That way,I could have had one blade for each bank. Dont ask me why I changed it to just the pipem however, it was late and I was tired.

At first I just wanted more airflow, but was told after that thought that a dual plate TB has better throttle resolution than a single large TB.

Not onyl that but when you are at part throttle on the LT1, only 1 plate opens. This helps your low end. Then at like 60% throttle the other plate starts opening. Kinda like mechanical secondaries on a carb-without the fuel of course.

um, are you positive about that? It looks like they both open up at the same time to me.

                          I was wrong

I did some research, and both plates do open at the same time. The reason was to direct the air from one plate into one side of the motor more directly. I was told a while back that they were staged, but that dude was wrong as well.

Dude, that's why people here give you so much shit. Half of what you say is just regurgitated crap you heard or read somewhere, which is usually wrong, that you pass off as fact. The other half of what you say may be true, but there is so much other BS you don't have any credibility.
