  • ECU question

I have a 94 3.4L engine. I want to put in a 91-93 ECU so I can purchase the FFP chip. I know I will need the map sensor, but what else is involved in doing this? Also, I plan on a turbo for this car, would converting to map make tuning the turbo set up easier or harder? I have an FMU, probably will be set up to 12:1 for the stock(rebuilt and flowed) injectors, and I also plan on buying a mini-afc from zzperformance. Would the FFP chip also help out in having the turbo on there? I planned on using a CT26 kind of modeling after Brians set up, but i think I am going to buy bigger turbo in better shape. The cost of getting the CT26 balanced and rebuilt I think would cost about the same as getting a better turbo in alot better condition.

    Thanks for the help!

domestic performance makes a chip for the 94-95 dohc, it is in the links section. but u are going to have to shell out 300 bucks for it.

id rather pay 300 for a chip and save the aggravation of going to a different ecu setup. if i were u id try to make the 94 work b/c it uses sequential fuel injection and the 91-93 map system uses multi port injection. sequential is preferred in boost situations.

Their chip has no testing as far as I know. No dyno, no personal experience....not worth 300 without some kind of proof it does something.

If you doing a turbo, don't bother with any chip cause they are meant for NA. Keep your MAF setup, its easier to tune for boost. One of these days ill get a 94 DOHC to tune and offer a chip but as it stands I dont, and I don't know what gains are to be had from even doing so. GM did get 10 hp out of their MAF engines...no motor changes.

I never planned on spending $300 on a chip from a place with out numbers to back it up. Thanks for the help, ill stick with what i got then for the turbo.

First, if you use your stock computer, put the MAF downstream of the BOV.
If you're planning on buying the mini-AFC, don't buy the FMU. ZZP has used the mini-AFC successfully with larger injectors on the L36. I don't think the LQ1 would be much different. I plan on doing this soon - removing the FMU and adding larger injectors while tuning with the mini-AFC. This should save you a lot of hassle and really reduce drivability problems to a minimum.

                    Good luck!

I have been doing some research over the summer, and I plan on making a few changes in how I am going to set this all up. Im dumping the CT26, and going to start looking for a better turbo. I got the FMU really really cheap, which is why I choose that over the injectors, but I imagine getting bigger injectors will be a bit easier to do. When i started this, I wanted to go the cheap route, but now that I have found a place to store this money pit for the winter(not at bens house ), I can start saving money to get some quality parts. My biggest thing right now is finding a place/someone to weld all the piping for me, and of course reading more and more.

I am running an auto tranny for this project, what suggestions do you have to keep it from exploding? I would like to get a stall and 3.73 gears, but I am unsure of how much I can do to make this tranny stronger.
