  • Doing a tune up?

Hey guys my daily driver Z34 needs a tune up. I change the oil every 3k miles but now I would like to do a complete tune up and maybe some upgrades. As per tune up what parts do yall recommend? I think I'll go with magnecore wires, I dont mind spending the money. Do I get 8mm or 8.5mm? I like going with the best but if theres something cheaper but equaly as good Id prefer it. What about plugs? Car has 150k miles on it what else needs to be changed? I bought the car almost 2 years ago with 124K miles, looks like the previous owner took good care of it.

I would just go with Ac delco plugs and standard replacment wires.

Unless you intend to do alot of modification, I'd stick with stock replacement.

With that amount of miles I would do a upper engine maintainence job and replace the timing belt, and if you did the timing belt might as well rebuild the cylinder heads and or port them if you want.

Sounds cool Junglenaut What other maintenance parts should I change? Like I said I want to do a complete tune up and Im sure Im forgetting something? The timing chain has been replaced From what I can think of change all fluids, I guess change the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires anything else? Doesnt standard plug wires suck!?! Should I get the platinum AC Delco plugs? I want to get the best but not necessarily the most expensive. Also my Idling is not that great but I'm assuming its because I need a tune up?

Change your fuel filter for sure.

Also go to the GM dealer and get some fuel injector cleaner and if you have the money, some top engine cleaner. Both did wonders for my car. However they are nnot that cheap, like 100-200, and are a pain in the ass to use.

As far as plugs go, standard ac delco should be fine, but I normaly use ac delco rapidfires. but I am also running on a little more of a race motor if I dare say-like higher comp etc.

yep the acdelco wires are usually the best, most people who build gp gm v6 engines will still have the stock coils, wires, and ignition

Rebuilding the heads or porting them sounds a little extreme for a guy wanting to do a tune-up.

I've just recently changed plugs and wires on my car and I can't believe the difference. It actually has a powerband again!! I had the intake manifold off and replaced a torn pcv hose. I don't think it would have hindered performance but I suppose it's possible.

I just went with stock AC Delco plugs and wires as the car is stock and I can't emphasise enough the difference it made. The idle was always pretty smooth but the performance was getting sluggish, its not a problem anymore.
