  • Granatelli MAF

Hey guys, first post on the 60degreeV6 forum. I was wondering about the Mass Air Flow sensor recommended in the DOHC performance section of the site. It gives the product number 350114, which is used on LT1 engines. I notice Granatelli DOES have one for the 3.4 but I can't find that on ebay. I can however find the one for the LT1. I was wondering if this MAF really does work for the 3.4, I'm not saying the sites lying, I'd just like to be sure before shelling out a couple hundred bucks for it down the road. Thanks in advance.

Okay, here is what I've heard. The modified MAF flows shit loads more air than the stock and actually leans out the mixture, because it is beyond what the ECU can deal with. So from that point you have to adjust your fuel pressure or injector duration to compensate for the lean condition. Ram Air Tech used to have a fuel pressure riser to remedy this issue, apparently it worked well. However those guys are a bunch of pussy's and quit making parts for our cars. But their are other guy's around here who can help you deal with the issue.

The main reason that info on this subject is not readily available on this site is because hardly any of the "info providing" members have the MAF LQ1 engine (pre 94').

I don't know what kind of preformance gains could be made with this mod. Ben may have an idea if he has the perameters of the modded MAF. Hope this helps.

go 1 step further granatelli also has adjustable MAF sensor now. get yourself a fuel rail from a 96-97 and it has an adjustable fpr. (or so i hear)

i don't see how a MAF sensor can enable flow beyond the a/f table of the ecu(unless it is calibrated improperly).

I'm not too sure, but maybe it gives the ECU a different reading thinking it's flowing more air. I think the system is made to allow for a non computer modded car.

if the car can handle 8 lbs of boost on a stock maf, Im sure you're wrong

I think you are getting confused with calibration.

A new MAF sensor (from a different car) may send more or less electric current to the computer than your old one for any given ammount of air, which will make your comp think it is getting more or less than it really is.

I THINK that part # is listed because it will have the proper calibration for our computers...but I've never tried one...maybe email the company and see if its compatible.

Like I said, that's what I heard. I read it some where a while ago. I didn't say it was correct. But since I joined this forum I haven't heard anything about it. But with 8 puonds of boost, that must be with a modded ECU then? But non-the-less, the thing is off a GM 350, so it must be made to flow more air.

Hmmm, well I might e-mail the company when am ready to buy one, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon. I have other mods to do. But if I do I'll be sure to tell you guys. Thanks everyone.

any updates? because ive been thinking about getting the MAF for my car too. if you can install it on a stock LT1, it should help our car too because there is no note on "modding" the ECU for the LT1. i honestly dont think programming would really differ between GM's OBD II computers. just different values here and there.

No updates. I won't be getting this for a while if ever, focusing money on other areas. But anyone else is welcome to guinea pig in my place.

I don't believe you need any re-tuning with the Granatelli MAF... I know a guy that had one on his '96 Z34. I'll email him and ask about it.

i questioned two people on eBay about it. one said they noticed a difference from 2k RPMs up and the other shot back with:

                            Dear hessa,

                            You asked:
"Hello, I was just wondering if you actually did notice any gains with this MAF or if it's hyped up like everyone else says it is? At your low starting bid, I'm very interested to try it out either way, but would like to know your observations with it. Thanks, Zach"

                            its all hype
