lifter shootout

some peeps have wanted to know about some lifter differences and i have seen some lifters offered so i have some pics as well as a new discovery.

all that remains of that cadi n* is the lifters so i decided to compare them, they look identical to the 96 lifters. same height, same size. but i wonder if there is any difference in weight?

my gut says no b/c gm has been known to cut corners and just put the same lifters in all their models but the northstar, is a high performance motor so it is hard to tell.

so tomorrow i will let them soak in oil for a few and take them to the post office to get weighed.

unfortunately i only have 1 96 lifter to go by but i do have 32 cadi lifters though.

The fiero.nl thread says that the bore is 30mm, and the 2.4 and 3.4 use 33mm in 96+.

Are 91-95 lifters the same as 96-97 lifters?

Nope, 91-95 are 35mm lifters.

That's odd.. I wonder why they went with smaller lifters in the revision.

A lot of cars changed sizes over the years. the 2.4 also has 33mm lifters.

i don't know, these northstar lifters look exactly like the 96+ lifters. when i stack them on top of each other there is no difference in them. i mean i would notice even a mm difference in diameter right? it is noticable?

maybe the guy on the fiero board measured the bores wrong...I dunno. I only know that someone measured the 96 DOHC lifter at 33 and the fiero guy measured the northstar lifter bore at 30mm. You would notice though so they must be the same thing.

perhaps they went through changes in the years like the 3.4 dohc did. i think these were from a 93 but i can't be certain.
