  • which is better launch method for drag racing????

i have heard alot of conflicting opinions about this topic, so which is better launching technique for drag racing with an auto.

the 1st method tha i use is referred as power stalling. where u hold the brake in and rev the motor to the point to where the brakes almost give out. for me it is betwen 2200 and 2400, then release the brake and punch it when it is time to go.

some say that this method is actually bad and slows down the car.

the other method is just punch it when i is time to go.

or if u guys have any other methods of launching i will be glad to hear them.thanx.

The power curve of your engine, and the amount of power it puts out will determine how you should launch. Assuming a relatively stock LQ1, I would "power brake" as high as you can and let off the brake and punch it, however I was told that the computer can see that you are doing this and it will pull timing to save the torque convertor. So, if you do it very quickly, like for maybe 1 second, then it could be helpful because the engine is closer to its power curve, and the computer doesn't know what just happened. This method always worked really well for me until my car got enough power to start spinning the tires at the track, I haven't been able to lauch decent since.

Thats interesting. Someone with a tool should check that.

I posted my time awhile back and sappy asked me how I launched. I said, I stayed still and just punched the throttle. No brake torque. I simply slip footed. I have a high of 16.1. Brake torque times went to 16.5. Two questions come up now.... #1 Do your brakes let off fast enough to get a good launch? #2 Does the computer know when you are brake torquing and compensate to save the convertor? Years ago, you could isolate back brakes and get all kinds off takeoff. There seems to be a lax in the FWD vehicles though, maybe due to ABS? I have a problem even smoking tires.
If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.
