He moded a 96 front header to fit the rear buy cutting the head flange off and re welding it on upside down Its like how the 95 guy use a front as a rear and run there own custom turbo tubing.

The bolt pattern on the later heads is off. If you put a front manifold on the rear head, it would point the wrong way. That's why I had a new front manifold butchered and a new flange welded on. I also have two spare flanges in case I want to make a tubular manifold at some point.

And here are the heads. New valve guides all around that have a retaining disk machined into them, a valve job, everything cleaned up, and the WOT Tech 4.6 SOHC valve springs. It seems the spring pressure is up dramatically over stock. These shouldn't have any issues with valve float.
Yesterday, my Monte got a hand wash (first time I have hand washed a car in years) and a new yellow top Optima (the old red top was beyond dead and it wasn't coming back). It's now pulled into the garage and ready to go.
Current plan of attack: I'm towing my S2000 back from the exhaust shop today (had to put in a cat again to get past emissions). Once it's home and the trailer is returned, I'll get to work on the Monte Carlo. 1st step, hook up a rear parking brake. 2nd step, assemble my new 2 ton Harbor Freight transmission hoist (probably going to use it for the front subframe). If I'm lucky, I may have time to start either removing the wiring harness or interior today. I'm not looking forward to either task, but hopefully I at least have all of the parts I need.

I doubt it since they will be custom one offs and not an off the shelf item.

Nope. The rods were again around that much. There are cheaper options out there, but you're probably still looking at $1500 for forged pistons and rods even if you do use a cheaper option (narrowed SBC rods).

Good news and bad news. Good news, I started working on everything. Bad news, the ARP head studs won't work. They're about 1/2 and inch too long.

I used part number 204-4202. That kit is for a VW Golf/Jetta 1.8L 16 valve. They screwed in perfectly and everything looked okay until I put the heads on.
