  • 91 GTP with a 96 crate motor.

HI , i just bought a 96 crate motor and i want to put it in my 91 gtp 5 speed. i realize that the exhaust manifolds are different so im just gonna make headers for it, but my question is the intake, plenum and injectors, can i use the ones from my 91 on this 96 crate motor, without losing power or screwing anytihng up? thanks

Yes, the 96 will make SLIGHTLY more power, but nothing noticable.

OK, heres what I know. The tranny will bolt up, everything else should work fine. The exhaust manifolds obviously are not going to work. The other issue is the lower intake manifold. The 96's have a different (thinner) gasket, so your manifold may not bolt up. However if you do get a 96' lower I'm pretty sure that the 91' upper intake will bolt onto the 96' lower. As far as injectors, they are big enough for the 96' engine but I don't know if they physically fit. I think that they do, but I can't remember. I any case you will need to have your computer done to some degree to get it running right. Hope this helps.

The injectors will work fine, even without tuning.

I know both lowers will bolt to the head the same...but I doubt the 96 top will bolt to the pre 96 lower...theres a pic around here somewhere of the 96 gasket overtop the pre 96 intake and its way off

It waqs AT MOST 1/16" off in places, but that is noticable.

wow...alot nothing is bein said.. I can tell you that a 96 lower intake will not bolt to a 91 upper... people have swapped 96+ intake upper n lower on a older 3.4 u might wanna try that i know bowtiekid79 did this...

Also you can just swap your 91 intakes on to this 96 engine with no problem. So basically use the crate motor... take the lower intake off it... Put your lower intake n go up from there..i would use the 96 injectors if you have them. they where updated for other issues.

the crate motor has nothing on it except the cam covers, oil pan, and water pump, also it does come timed. but it has nothing else, no injectors, intake or anything, so everything except the exahust manifolds will have to come from my 91 motor. thanks for the help.

It's way more then 1/16". Our 91/5 runners are stagered from each other. The 96/7 runners are all inline with each other. In other words, put a ruler across our runners, and imagine where there is a gap from the staggered runner turning into runner space. I think it is more like 1/4" or so at least.

If you want a compression boost, put your pistons from your 5 speed engine in the 96 engine w/ total seal rings. That should put you over 10:1 compression.

nah, ill just leave the engine the way it is, my 5 speed motor has seen its last days anyways. plus if i want to drop my supercharger on this new engine it wont have a really high compression ratio.
