You need find a used DHP Powertuner. If you swap to a 97 PCM you could probably use a HP tuners.

97 PCM swaps have been done without that. Even with a DHP I guess the 97 has more tables/tunability or something

you SHOULD be able to use the 97 PCM, there should be an option to switch between 4T60E and 4T65 settings, just toggle that to 4T60E and you're almost done.

Nope thats not an option. Realy would have no reason for using the 97 pcm unless you were going to run a 4t65. The 4t65 is so much better any way the 4t60 was sad.

i know the 97 3x00 BINs have the option of changing "shift quality controlled by PCM", that would be implying a PCS equipped trans, but i don't have any software that supports the 97 3.4 cars, so i assumed it would have been added, guess not.

i was accually thinkin about doin a tranny swap dont really know wats involed with that other than get one and put it in anything from there im lost like the pcm ima pretty much need another car as a donor. what tranny is in the 98 monte with the 3.8? whats so much better about the 4t65? is the gearing different or just built better?? idfk. thanks

a 98 (3800 car) has a 4T65e. again no real performance advantage. the 60-e already has good gear ratio in it with the DOHC. the tranny is stronger in some areas but on a nearly stock car its not a big concern. My 60-e had 158K miles on it and daily beat before it went out, and i was turbo for 60K miles of thoes.. I would look at other things 1st unless your trans is on its way out. What intake do you have? is it a open cone under the hood or is it down in the fenderwell? fenderwell will be better overall performance, cooler air. check out WOT-Tech store and see if there is anything else that might get ketch your interest. IIRC HP tuners will also do a 1996. BUT if you can find a DHP Powrtuner i would go that route, you can change things and now have to pay for credits, works just fine on my Turbo DOHC and my SC 3800 Bonne. I would also say you can replace the exhaust with a little bigger piping.. I have a borla kit on mine that i modified, the borla kit is nice but the pipng is still 2" mandrel... I went 2.5" mandrel on the mid pipe to the Y-pipe. I would say 2.25" or 2.5" would be good. i would not go 3". If you don't want a louder exhaust i would say atleast replace the mid pipe to the Y and run the stock Y and mufflers. Im also a fan of suspension work, i would get a Eibach lowering kit 1.5" drop and some KYB struts, will handle very nice but not be harsh. OEM Motorsports also makes some suspension stuff, i think he does strut tower bars and whatnot too.

                    hope this helps,

thats what i thought as well but i recently saw somewhere that said they did support '96 DOHC's. Definintaly want to verify with HPT if you are going to order it.... I think mark at OEM is running HPT on his '96 OBDII swap.
