Real racers do not use headers. At least not in the normal sense of the word. See the 8 pipes coming out? I'm just pullin' your chain Aaron.

Glass packs and Flowmaster mufflers sound decent on a 3.1/3100, but the LQ1 is a totally different beast. It is very hard not to get a bad drone and also not to make it sound like a raspy honda.

I personally like the stock sound so thats why I'm going with 2.25" super turbo's.

Ben had a 2 1/2 mandrel bent exhaust with a single 40 series flowmaster on his cutty and it didn't sound bad at all. It sounded like it needed a resonator, but beside that it sounded fine. Not too loud at idle, like fart pipes, and not too loud reving, like fart pipes. He said the reason two 40's sound like complete shit is that they flow too much together, but flow enough if you have one and not two to get the right sound. I am still undecided at this point as to what muffs to get other then Borla.

I like the sound of my flowmasters, how long did you have yours on before they blew out ? to be honest, and no disrespect to regal231 but I personally don't think the dynomax sounded that good. the guy I go to in Dublin said he did exhaust on a car similar to ours (GM v6) and he tested a couple different mufflers to see which ones sounded the best, maybe you could find a shop that would do that. I could talk to him next time I'm in Dublin to see what he thinks maybe he could work with you. I'll let you know.
That sounds cool, I had my flowmasters for a little under a year. Only one of the mufflers died on me (the passenger's side one), the other doesn't rattle at all. I think I'll go with a magnaflow straight-through single-in dual-out. Where can I buy one cheap?

"real racers" don't use mufflers. They use about 2 feet of piping after their headers.
Im gonna say that depends on the class, and we're pretty much all legal street

I'd vote for Dynomax. I'd say more, but that's why I did this web page (with sound clips) on my LQ1.

I'm sorry but that just doesn't sound good. Maybe it's the clip quality, it was deep but just sounded... off... I don't know.

Dammit if I had access to a welding equipment I'd be all over trying different exhaust systems. But I think I'm gonna go with the Magnaflows. I think (if I recall correctly) that in Dave's (dykz34) dyno run clip on his site he has those Magnaflows. I was really damn impressed with the sound too. Clips help out a lot in these decisions because these engines are obviously hard to get sounding how you want them. And obviously everyone has a different opinion on "good" sounding. My car has an amazingly powerful idle for a V6 (better than any pushrod I've heard in person) but I can't say much for revving... revving sucks because of the blown plate.

At the time of that dyno, I only had glasspacks on it. I didn't put the Magnaflows on until the next summer. After putting on the Magnaflows, the tone of the car didn't change at all... it cut out the crackle completely (except when the car is cold) and quieted it down a bit. I'm really happy with my Magnaflow mufflers. If you guys want quiet on the DOHC, get Borla's (they are flat sounding though).

How long is the resonator on your car? I want loud please I'm probably gonna go with a 12" or smaller, just something to calm it down a little... but I still want to scare people.

Right now my car shakes the house when you start it in the morning (I know my bed is right next to the garage).

I have an 18" resonator in place of the stock one in addition to the dual chambered Magnaflow mufflers and Carsound hi-flow cat.

I have the same setup with a Magnaflow resonator and am happy with it.

I have a 2.5 straight oval Ulta flow. Cant complain, I love it. Sounds like a mean high moded V8 like nascar cars.
