  • Dynomax Ultraflo SS' on an LQ1

Has anyone heard the Dynomax Ultraflo SS' on an LQ1? I'm gonna be doing my full cat-back system next month, and it will most likely include one of these. How do they sound compared to Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers? I blew out a plate in one of them racing and I've decided the chambered design, while probably better for sound, isn't for a 7200RPM engine. I have my idea for the new cat-back system on my Cardomain in case anyone is curious.

    Thanks.

Flowmasters suck on the DOHC and i have heard Dynomax do too becuz they both make it rasp.

I think it is popular consencious that the Magnaflows work best, plus they are a performance muffler so they are straigth through etc. I am reall happy with the way mine sounds.

I'll check them out. If they sell them in a 2.5" Single-In Dual-Out setup I'd be interested. They sound better than flowmasters? If you could get a sound clip that'd be cool. Also, what model do you have (I'm not realy familiar with the Magnaflow line)?

I know for a fact they sound better than the Flowmasters. FLowmasters are made for 1 motor, a pushrod V8. Nothing else.

I do not know the part #, but I think it is the Magnaflow generic straight through, 2.25" centered inlet, 2.25" offset outlet.

Why would you use a single muffler? The car is stock, and is set up for, a dual muffler system. I guess you could go single in, dual out, but no reason. Is it for a 4-out tip? If so most people use a Y pipe right after the muffler.

I think the idea is saving wieght. Why use two muffs when you only need one? Split after the muff instead of before. Makes sense.

Yah, cuz a muffler adds so much. You'd be better off porting your manifolds for weight, not performance. lol.

It'd work, but I do not see why.

every lb adds up in weight savings

A better argument would be that two mufflers flow better than one.

Ive heard the superturbos...they are Very nice, but VERY quiet, can hardly hear em...the dynomax bullet mufflers, or whatever the dynomax race ones are, supposedly sound nice on the 3.1, but the LQ1 is silly

magnaflos are nice, havn't heard flomasters

That's exactly my thinking. Plus I thought it would probably sound better because there would be an equal amount of gases going through each side. I dunno I just thought it'd be cool to try something different, and if it sucks, I can always change it down the road.

Well, the rice market is making muff's out of titanium now just to save weight. I think it's every hundred pounds saved makes you a 10th faster in the quarter. For real racers that's big shit.

"real racers" don't use mufflers. They use about 2 feet of piping after their headers.

I have the Dynomax ultraflo's and love em. Nice deep throaty sound, not raspy and not classic fart cannon. I didnt buy the Stainless, I got the others for about half the price.

                        Hello,

I'd vote for Dynomax. I'd say more, but that's why I did this web page (with sound clips) on my LQ1.

go with dual glasspack resonators, lighter, flow straight, and sound very "pissed off", but not too loud. people are always complementing the sound of my 3100 grand prix, and no-one has told be it sounds bad.

I like the sound of my flowmasters, how long did you have yours on before they blew out ? to be honest, and no disrespect to regal231 but I personally don't think the dynomax sounded that good. the guy I go to in Dublin said he did exhaust on a car similar to ours (GM v6) and he tested a couple different mufflers to see which ones sounded the best, maybe you could find a shop that would do that. I could talk to him next time I'm in Dublin to see what he thinks maybe he could work with you. I'll let you know.
