Maybe a dumb question but when you say advance intake 6 degrees and retard exhaust 6 degrees. Advancing would be before TDC and retarding would be after TDC w a degree wheel??? Well 12 degrees at the crank anyway. Reason I ask is I recently purchaced a 92 z34 w a broken intermediate shaft that ran good just made noise from the timing belt. I removed the engine and replaced the shaft and degree'd the cams and now it runs poorly at low rpms but good at 3k and up. Im not sure if I have other problems or I did it wrong?? I'm not to excited to have to tear it down to 0 everything to be sure. Any help would be appreciated

Question on cam timing???

When you say poorly, is it just not very ballsy but rips loose over 3k? If so, that's normal of the DOHC. And as for the 6/6 timing, that should be 6 degrees at the crank (3 at the cam), not 12.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

oh wow!! so I guess I misunderstood the pics that sappyse107 posted for 12 degrees being 6 degrees at the cam. So when others talk about degrees they are refering to crank degrees (+6/-6) and not actual cam degrees?? I guess I need to get it straight so when I retime it I do it right. Thanks for the help.

No problem That's why I go by the crank for my marks when I do my timing, even though I do have one of the few adjustable hold down tools.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

This one isn't mine, but it's a good friends here on this board. I got one of them from the same batch John did.

If you do come across one of the adjustable ones, be warned they are marked in CAM degrees, not crank degrees, so divide the number by 2-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
