does anyone know where i can find a set of 8.5:1 compression forged pistons, forged rods, and a forged or billet 2.8L crank for internals. im also looking for 130# or more valve springs cams and turbo manifolds and a downpipe? also if anyone know where to find stainless steel valves. im trying to piece together parts for a high reving turbo project.

Forged pistons, probably custom.
Forged rods, use SBC 327 rods and have the big end and bearings machined down to the same width as the DOHC rods.
I thought there was a forged 2.8l crank sold by a J body performance site, but I don't remember which one or what kind of reputation they have.
Springs not sure.
Cams, custom ground- there should be some threads on here covering it, including contacts.
Manifolds and downpipe, custom as well.
Not sure about valves either.
Basically the DOHC got screwed in the aftermarket world, sadly.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

well luckily after i get this build done im buying another engine and gettin it torn down and into my machining shop to start trying to r&d making performance versions of these parts after the lack of aftermarket ive found i just want to see what i can do and get out of it first. if i can get 380hp at the crank with mild work ill be impressed and start working on making parts for custom order

Well, there was a Fiero guy that got around 280, IIRC, just by changing cam timing and making a custom intake that resembled a shoebox on top of the LIM. I don't recall if that was at the tires or at the crank, but either way 380 should be cake to get without too much work, especially if a turbo is in the plans. You had better look at doing some tranny work as well, unless you have a manual (then just get a better clutch).-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

There are a lot of hypereutecic pistons available (summit racing is one place) that would be fine unless you get crazy with boost. Forged rods and crank would be more important.
You can use a forged crankshaft from a 3500 as well. The displacement would still be 3.4L which I would recommend anyways over a 2.8L. The few people who have boosted an LQ1 have seen good results. The LQ1 is already 24 valves and an 8mm overbore. It loves boost. I don't know why you would want to change it to a 2.8L. Revving a 2.8L into the stratosphere would be less reliable even with forged components and with over 20% less displacement it would still struggle to make as much power, especially pushing a 3200-3400 lb car.Jesse M.

well i was looking into the 2.8L for destroking purposes. like i did on my chevy small block 400 and destroked it down to a 377 so i could rev the piss out of it. but ill look into the 3500 crank instead. i was looking to try and get around 9k rpm out of this engine if possiable. and as for the turbo i only plan on running 8 to 14lbs max on it and im looking for the 380hp at 8 to 10 lbs of boost and i will be doing trans work just havent decided what togo with as far as trans selection goes. should i attempt a swap to a 4t65e-hd with all kinds of zzp goodies, or a getrag 5 speed of some kind. i have the 4t65e already left over from a previous car of mine. but i would prefer togo manual does anyone know where to get a getrag and everything needed for the swap and about how much does it cost todo a manual conversion?

I think I spent around 1k on the 91, but I went in halves with Ben on a 5 speed parts car. I got the 5 speed related parts and we sold the interior pieces and the engine. Basically I think Ben broke even on his side, and I got 5 speed setup and template for my car. We didn't sell stuff for very much. Basically the car was bought mainly to do the 5 speed swap since most people at the time talked about wanting to do it and I had wanted to do it for a while.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

yeah i would love to be able to keep my 4t65e for another project i had in mind after the grand prix is done. after all i think it would be a waste to bolt up a fully built 4t65e with 3.29:1 gears and all chromoly shafts and a shift kit and the quafe lsd. the trans is built proof so i would like to save it for a more poweful engine. i used to have it in my 2000gtp but i blew the lower end out of it b4 the trans would give outi was goin to rebuild that engine but the damage to the block was pretty extensive and it wasnt worth saving so i kept everything off my l67 except the block due to damage. i wish i could get my eaton to work with the lq1 that would be sick to be able to bolt up my sc and then do a turbo in addition to the sc

All of that would be a bit overkill... Im at 331hp to the wheels which is ~405 to the crank on a stock motor. the 60-e if put together right is strong. ferrarifan is over 400hp to the wheels on a stock internal motor, turbo and tune... TimG had custom rods and pistons made for his '96 block and i can tell you it was NOT CHEAP!! if your building a 500HP+ car then do it up....

my high performance class requires 10,000 dollars on top of your own car if you work on your own car in the class. the money isnt something i have to be really all that worried about it comes out of my student loans and i have money saved in the bank for it too i should have close to a 15,000 dollar budget for the whole car come this fall. ill also be doing all my own maching work as far as blueprinting, balancing, and pnp work. so ill save some money on machine work im really looking to get as much as i can out of this car. this is the blacksheep of the gm engine and i want to prove all my friends wrong that this car is a waiste of my time. i even have a friend custom machining adjustable cam gears like the ones made by aem for import cars. after he makes them ill post pics for people i spent quite afew hours making them they should make adjusting timeing alot easier than haveing a special tool. im shooting for around mid to high 10sec in a 1/4 mile.

You could do like I've wanted to do to my car and turn the engine the right way and install a C5 Corvette transmission in the rear of the car. That will help tons as far as 1/4 mile time due to way better traction.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
