i was wondering what happened with this project....
so what size did the TB bore come out to?
A total catastophy happened, upon finding glass bead media in the engine durring a torque check.. I lost all trust in the build after that and did'nt really like the idea of tearing it all down right now.
So, this is a complete virgin TDC, not a single remanded part was used for this build.. I am however using my old lower intake manifold, and also used exhaust manifolds.. x2 front ones.. But as for the TB I'll get back to ya on that one I can't remember off hand.. It was'nt much over stock tho..
Thanks glad you like! TDC is such an ugly duckling stock.. So while building it I though it would look more like an engine in this setup and then threw some color @ it.. I was looking for that, "piece o' candy" look or pretty meat grinder..lol
More goodies.. I've also desided to go ahead and fab custom headers/manifolds as well.. This is a virgin Muncie 282 also no remaned parts or cases were used here.. Had the input shaft hardened and an LSD installed..
Yes? It is.. It matches the LQ1 I have is there some reason I should be concerned? The trany was listed as for v6 as well.. Shop did'nt mention any thing either..
well, to begin with.. it is a HM282 for sure. and yes, that is the Quad 4 bellhousing, internal slave so it must be 93/94 ish. 4DFF is a terrible gearset IMO, 1st:3.77, 2nd:2.19, 3rd:1.38, 4th:1.06, 5th:0.80, FDR:3.94.
That trans won't bolt up to your LQ1 without swapping the bellhousing over from a V6 HM282. Depending on the year of the donor trans you may have to swap the reverse rail as well. It's all fairly easy, i've done it many times.
If i were you i'd find a real V6 HM282 with the 3.5 1st gear and 3.61 FDR.. or a 89/90 ish Quad 4 trans with the 3.61 diff and the 1.06 4th. There is more info on the HM282 in the transmission articles on this site.
All that being said, your absolute best option would be to find a HM284, that trans belongs behind a 3.4 DOHC and will perform the best.

You're correct 100% I just took the tape to it and looks like only 4 holes will actually line up.. Efff me sideways I got ripped off.. I was told this transmission would match my engine from the seller.. Nice huh? Now I've got time and money into it and can't use it.. ARGGGHHH!
I can get a remaned 284 for sure. I of course found it after settling for this POS.. But my concern is with remanned transaxles.. I don't want to bolt a used tranny to my engine boosted.. I just don't trust them..
