with enough time and money into anything... hell, you could make a lambo look like a fiero if you wanted.

      it's all in the details.

Nope, it's not an MR2, I doubt a 3.4 DOHC would fit in that engine bay. The great thing about the Fiero is that you have lot's of options when it comes to an engine swap and body mods. There is some aftermarket support for it, you just have to look. Plus they are still relatively cheap to buy and fairly easy to work on.
The main reason it doesn't look like a Fiero is that the roofline has been modified. To get it to look right I modded the cowl and added a custom extended windshield (about 6" longer at the bottom) which gives the car a more "cab-forward" look and adds some rake to the windshield.
Your right about the interior being overlooked on a lot of cars. My interior is 99% identical to the Ferrari interior. In addition to the engine upgrades, I've got custom tubular a-arms and axles to widen the suspension 6 inches in the rear and 4 up front, adjustable Koni coilovers. Wilwood dynalite calipers and 12" rotors, ciustom C&R aluminum radiator. There's a bunch more little things but those are the big ones. It all started out with the engine swap and then the body kit and one thing led to another. I didn't want to be one of those guys with a car that didn't live up to it's looks so my goal was to create a car that performed as well as it looks. I won't be embarrased by some dude in a pimped out Civic! This is the car that Pontiac should have built in the first place! LOL
I just added a bunch of pics of the engine and interior etc to the gallery if anyone's interested.
