  • Finally dynoed my turbo 3.4 dohc....430 rwhp!

hey guys, I haven't posted in a while but I thought I'd share the latest news from my 355 rebody.
After a custom turbo install and a slipping clutch and some tuning issues I decided to get some help. I took the car to Jeff Ianitello (Engineered Performance) near Atlanta, GA. He installed a Limited Slip Diff in the 282 Getrag and upgraded the clutch to a Spec Stage 3 with an Fidenza aluminum flywheel.
After lot's of chasing vacuum leaks and IAC problems he finally got some serious $8f tuning time in and got her to the dyno.

It makes a solid 430HP at the rear wheels at 12psi with zero knock retard on 91 octane pump gas.
My goal was 380 HP since that's the output of the 355's engine at the crank, anything over that is gravy. Lays a nice double line on the road thanks to the LSD

Here's a link to the dyno graph and some pics of the engine.

I love your Car! (period, the end!) once i get my turbo hearders finished and installed i think its time to turn up the boost... Dunno if i can ketch you with my turbo... Might need a new turbo.. Great numbers on 12psi Mathmatically you are right where you should be! 20hp:1psi... Im at 331hp @7psi (compared to Stock 190hp i dynoed)... so it makes me excited to see what i can work my way up to with a little more boost

Thanks guys. This engine has so much potential it makes me wonder why it isn't more popular. I'm looking forward to seeing your projects get finished.

Iv been saying that for years gm made a mistake canceling it. Such great flowing heads with amazing boost potential. They should have just reworked with an alum block and update a few minor things.

Someone wanted a video to hear the engine action. it's actually kind of quiet with the Ferrari muffler but you can still hear the dohc and turbo music.
Just uploaded a video to youtube. Check it out.

Sights and sounds of my Turbo charged 3.4 DOHC Ferrari 355 replica that I built myself. It's powered by a GM 3.4L DOHC LQ1 engine that's been turbocharged. 4...

                        Absolutely beautifully done car. Congratulations.

I have always been attracted to that engine despite many issues (lack of support, damage a thrown fan belt can do etc.)

A modern day swap candidate might be the new GM DI V6 used in the Caddy CTS and 2011 Camaro (312 BHP)!

I'm sure once these engines become more available at the wreckers we'll see some adventurous soul do the first swap. I hope they take lots of pictures and post to this forum so I can copy them! LOL

I just looked at the video again and realized that the camera was zoomed in for most of it. Couldn't really see much acceleration with such a narrow field of view. I'll try to get another video posted soon. Does anyone have anything they would like to see, picture or video?

Great dyno and choice of turbo. 4000 rpm of powerband is great for a 3.4 DOHC. The entire car looks incredibly well put together. I hope that you enjoy it!
