  • 96 Z34 wiring issues

let me start off by saying i don't want to offend any one here by the what i have done to a perfectly good 96 monte carlo Z! that being said i have the drive train out of and aw some running Z34 w/ LQ1 and a 4t60E tranny. the car was beat and raped by a previous owner and the interior and exterior were fubar, the motor and tranny were in perfect working order excpt for a few minor oil leeks.
i started a full custom sand rail project and wanted something different not like every one Else's 1600 vw . the 3.4 seems very peepy (almost like a hot rod) and i think it will be the perfect power plant for my rail.
the thing i am most concerned with is the wiring. i saved all the harness in the engine compartment and as much of all the other harnesses that i could trying not to cut any thing not knowing what i would and wouldnt need
i was wondering if any one has link to a complete wiring diagram for the car
also i don't know any thing about this motor and tranny if any one knows of any weak links that i sould address while i have it out

Oh hell yeah! That's going to be one sick ride! Are you asking for advice on what you need to have to run the engine sans Monte Carlo? First, everything that is directly attached to the engine and it's accesories. Simply follow out from the engine harness. You will note that a large bundle goes back to the Computer and another good sized bundle goes to the Power Distribution Center (fuse/relay block/s) as well as to the multiple junction connector for the dash. Depending on how much complexity you want on your ride (You going to have a radio, or a couple of high mounted fans to cool you off in traffic?) You may well end up using as much as 80% of the forward vehicle harness/s.

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

is far as the complexity of the wiring, all i need is all the ecm wiring , It'l have tons of lights and other things like that but i will make a new harness for the front of the rail.

on the the original key to the car it had a resistor can i just do away with that circuit or something? om not using a keyed switch?

i know i said on the first post that that didn't need a wiring diagram but that was a typo, i defiantly need a schematic for this , also does any one have any ideas as to was to do with the p/s and a/c pumps because im not gunna need them but i think finding a belt to fit w/out them is prolly near impossible

You can open up the P/S pump, remove it's vanes and it will just idle. At that point you can cap the fittings and put some synthetic fluid in it to protect the bearings/seal. The A/C compressor can be capped for the moment, as long as it isn't connected or turned on electrically, it will idle as well until a more expensive solution can be found.....LOL.

Cool project! things to check before install.
          * T-belt condition (if it looks warn, replace it)
          * Trans fluid (I would just put a new filter and fluid in it before installin into the rail, if it was beat who knows when it was changed last.. the 4T60-E is not knowen to be the longest lasting trans.. But unless your going to trebuild it, not much to do except fluid and filter)
          * General tune-up items obviously don't want to start with old plugs, t-stat, ect)

I have a ton of wiring diagrams. I'm not sure I have any for the 96, but I do for the 96 w-bodies and 95 and 97 Z34. Between those, you should be able to figure out the 96 Z34. It's very close to the 97 Z34 wiring diagram. I've attached some of the ones I had already posted for the 97 Z34. If you want the rest, PM me with your e-mail and I'll send you everything I've collected.
