does anyone know where i can find a 2800 to 3200 stall torque converter

  • #2
If you can find an "FA" or "FB" GM converter they are rated at 2795 and 2760 RPM when used in rather low output 4 cylinder applications.

With even a slightly modded V6 you would be in the 3000+ range pretty easily.

OR you can contact me directly and I can get you a newly rebuilt one, however shipping may be expensive.

GM didn't make a 2750 unless it's something rather recent.

        FA 2795
        FK 2760
        FB 2560
        FC 2385
        FZ 2375
        FD 2095

Having that established, they will all be different (higher) with a modded V6!

Most of these are 4 cylinder models that we get to take advantage of.

I currently have an FA1B that has been "tweeked" and it's going to be somewhere around 3300.

With you running the FA I'm half tempted to try my PDQ one once again... just to see if I can figure it out... I never did run that setup at the strip, I was going all off of the butt dyno saying the bottom end felt weird.

It's not a Factory torque, lol

I should have said "I Installed" a 2750 Stall, it was a custom built torque, made more beefer then stock of course as well..

I actually haven't driven with this one as yet.

It's going in when I do the engine.

Billy took the whole thing apart again after the rebuild because he didn't like the 2-3 shift at WOT. When he put it back in, it's hanging on three bolts to save time taking the engine out.

But it WILL feel alittle strange on the street I imagine. I really don't care on this application.

I really should try it again then... The PDQ guy swore that I would be happy with that converter with what specs I gave him on my engine...

i know magnaflow makes a downpipe for the 1995-97 Monte carlo 3.4L dohc. that can be moddified to work with your 1st gen. (rear flange is different, thats about it). Or just have one made. I have seen some of thoes Magnaflow downpipes on ebay a few times cheap (VERY expensive if you buy from magnaflow, Stainless, mandrel bent and includes Cat and flanges.).

Check with some local transmission shops and look to see if there is a TQ converter place localy to you that rebuilds TQ converters, they should be able to tweek it.. I had a local shop to me build one for a few hundered, 3000 RPM stall... With my turbo setup i will force it up to about 5500 if i hold it long enough... Ive been to chicken shit to actually launch it at that rpm... only a couple 3K stalls, feels good

If it helps here is the guys that did mine. Good guys, done alot of business with them in the past.
