  • Proper LQ1 injector thoughts

I was reading some information and came across this picture and caption (right side)

It shows an LQ1 injector spray pattern and it has two cones. I verified by looking up information in my old 1991 3.4 Manual and sure as hell it mentions the dual spray pattern. It makes sense that they're shooting a cone at each intake valve, but I'd never thought about it.

My problem is my car has had L32 injectors spliced in place by a previous owner. I'm thinking that despite the L32's being larger, they're likely counterproductive being that these are just shooting a single cone in between the valves and pooling up on the intake before getting sucked in, and that putting stockers back in would be just as good and maybe give some fuel economy to boot if they do create better atomization.

What's everyone's thoughts on this/ any experiences with injector use on these engines.

If it isn't tuned for those injectors, its going to be really bad. If its not modified to need those injectors, tuned or not, its going to get better MPG with the stockers.

Lol, I know it could use a tune, the engine feels more powerful when the engine is still in open loop, but I don't know where to get that done here. Anyways I guess what I want to know is even if it was tuned for a larger injector, do LQ1's take just as well to a single spray cone, or should I stick with the stock dual spray (or find some other dual spray injector).

Well at least you didn't use those BMW injectors. There's nothing like shooting a stream of raw fuel like a fire hose into the divider in the head, lol.

i gotta ask: what engine can possibly benefit from using what is the equivalent of a 0* pressure washer tip?

Direct injection? I mean, CC temps would be so hot I would think the fuel would vaporize almost instantly. It might help hold off preignition for just long enough for the spark plug for it to do it's thing.

if gasoline direct injection is anything like diesel DI, NO WAY. i've played with those diesel pistons before and they had carbon in a circular pattern, not in the center....

damnit, now i gotta find out.

Now I wonder if BMW's would gain some power just by changing to conical pattern injectors, lol.

GDI injectors spray patterns are conical, and usually the injector is off-center and sprays at an angle to keep from spraying the cylinder walls.

I'm very curious as to what kind of BMW those are from.
