what would be a good exhaust setup for my 95 lumina dohc

  • #2
I assume you are talking cat back setup. If you can live without the dual exhaust look, a single flowmaster sounds really good IMO. Also less weight helps performance. The downpipe is 2.5" diameter so getting a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust from the cat back would be best. A high flow cat will help a lot, as the stock cat is extremely restrictive and quiets the exhaust a whole lot.

For mufflers, thats pure opinion. I dont like dynomax super turbos, but I do like the 40 series flowmaster.

      do it GTO style

I was thinking that if not going with dual exhaust (which I think looks bad on the Z34s with the muffs hanging down), you could have the exhaust pipe/tip go out the side before the rear tire - just like the new GTO (which is real dual exhaust).

          huh.

I thought somewhere that I saw it went out the side. I checked out the Montaro and it goes out the back too. Maybe there was something at GMforums..I seem to remember for some reason.. but thats history so I'll have to take your word.

Hmm... My car is like that.... I like it, although it is quite on the loud side, and doesn't allow you much place for a muffler..

Now why they have to have both pipes exit at the same spot is beyond me. Im glad its true duals, but they should have one exit on one side and the other on the other side

i agree with Robby and want to venture to say that aside from better looks they probably would have had better flow had they used both sides (the pipe on the passenger side is bent all over the place ).

I think that the styling somewhat goes along with the Pontiac muscle cars where, both pipes exited on the same side. If it's the same way on the Monaro then, then my thought really means nothing.

                      Hi,
I recently put a new exhaust on my '91 Z34. Cat back. I went to summit acing and bought a Catco converter. Had them fabricat a new pipes from the cat back. Then i had them mount 2 Dynomax mufflers and some really cool chromed Chevy bowtie tips. It sounds really good and it didnt break the bank to much. Ran me about $450.00 for the whole thing...And it sounds really mean!!!

everyone setup is very simular to mine...but..

I have 2 1/2 pipe series 40 flowmasters n catco high flow cat...my car is annoyingly loud...n really really raspy...My idle is real deep n lopy sounding .Anyways ,So people with dynomax muffler or Magnaflow are u running a resonator? Or It just flowmasters that make it that raspy at mid rpm?!...anyone suggest anything..? Glass pack or resonator?! or diffrent mufflers?!

Hi...No im not running a resonator or glass pack. I think alot of the reason mine isnt is because of the way my pipe is ran. Now my cousin still has the old factory exhaust on his Z. And his is nothing but raspy...

                            My setup is this:

                            Carsound high flow cat
                            Magnaflow round for a resonator
                            And two magnaflow mufflers.

                            Sounds Amazing.

I have the EXACT same setup except my resonator isnt a name brand. Its a "Silver Bullet". I should make some sound clips for you guys... You can check out my dyno video on my site (but thats my old exh. setup aka glasspacks in place of stock mufflers with everything else stock). I thought that setup sounded awesome, but it was too damn loud. Check out the video on the "Dyno" page on my site: www.dykz34.com
