282s are fairly easy to find, but 284s are stronger and kind of rare and are essentially not rebuildable.

or you could go for the F40, if you feel like it...

Dave96z34 put a 4T65E in his Z34,, 96 or 97. He posts here pretty often,, his avatar has a supercharger sticking through the hood on top of the LQ1. A PM to him might give some answers...
      Just a thought.

the 4T65-E/HD will bolt up and drop in to our subframes. i had a 3.8 SC in my '92 Z34 and it bolt right up... I had a swap the rubber motor mount in one of the lower mounts between the old and new trans (bolt holes where just a hair off) but it workes no problem. but the ECU will not control the 4T65 trans from what i understand so its a good time to do a '97 LQ1 ecu/OBDII swap, fairly simple if you can find the harness/ecu.

The 4T80 is slightly different bolt pattern from what we concluded but with an adaptor plate it would be an awsome trans to put into the car.. Bullet proof

Yeah, but you swapped the engine too. The problem is LQ1's use that right side mount on the 4T60 transmission instead of the mount on the right side of the engine that 3800's and pushrod 60V6's use. It's gonna give him headaches not having that right side engine mount there since the 4T65 didn't have a mount on its right side. Not saying it can't be done, but it won't be bolt in.

LQ1 mounts is the only reason I haven't tried putting an 2nd/3rd gen aluminum subframe w/ suspension on my car. If LQ1's mounted like pushrods and 3800s, I'd be all over trying to make that work.

4T65 bolts right up. If he has a 96 he should be able to install a 97 monte harness and do some rewiring at fire wall plug and modfied pcm to suit his needs. Or he could take his 96 harnes and take the tranny plug wire bundel from the 97 and pin it in the 96 pcm conector and run the 97 pcm. The 4t80 would be nice but it will need a huge efort to retune it. One of the l67 guys on the dhp site spent weeks fighting its internal gear ratio diference.

            96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.

WTF? Maybe OBDII isn't opened up as much as some of the OBDI bins, but that just blows my mind he couldn't get around a FDR or gear change...

that's the problem, i don't think it is.

and since NONE of the obd2 stuff out there is DIY, like tunerpro, or encourages DIY, people are at the mercy of companies to disassemble, comment, and hack through BINs...

and that's why it costs SO much more to play in the OBD2 game than OBD1.

                reasons #1 and #2 why i chose 1.

1996 would be your year... Those vehicles listed would have it... Find a low mileage one or do a full rebuild, shim the accumulators, etc. and you'd be pretty good..

But looks like the HD is only different in that it has a stronger diff/etc.

As far as I know Getrag is the name of the (German?) company that makes the trannys that a lot of our cars use. So, the 4T60E is also a "Getrag" trans... Also the 5 speeds (282--284?).. And others....
                              Not nit-pickin,, just sayin...

                                the 4t60-e is GM Hydramatic...

the 5 speed manuals are mostly getrag through... except for a few isuzu and new venture gear units...
