I just don't want to damage my gear box or seals in it. I know some gear boxes are very finicky about the type of oil you use in the gear box. So would a heavy 85W140 work fine or a light 75W90?sigpic1993 Pontiac Grand Prix SE, 3.4L DOHC 24 Valve V6 MFPI, 5 speed, completely stock, bucket on a budget!

The Synchromesh is a lot lighter then gear lube. Gear lube is for differentials and outboards. Even my truck doesn't use gear lube in the transmission, it uses dexron, lol.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

75W-90 was the original wieght, but I would go with a synchromesh fluid if your re-filling it.......

i saw an episode on HPTV once in which they dyno'd i believe it was a camaro before & after with royal purple fluids & gained like 3-4 whp. impressive but who knows how god-awful the fluids that had been in it were...
they also prolly spent $100+ on all the different fluids because that crap is expensive!!

Well, I think I'm going to go with the Royal Purple SyncroMax because I used conventional oils in my old Subaru and when I changed to Royal Purple, the car ran totally different, was a lot smoother, idled smoother, and acceleration got a little too peppy. That was only driving it after 100 miles or so. I think the additives coat micro-fissures and cracks in the block....who knows? Cause I know my Suby had a lot of blow-by and it stopped after RP.sigpic1993 Pontiac Grand Prix SE, 3.4L DOHC 24 Valve V6 MFPI, 5 speed, completely stock, bucket on a budget!
