Theres a 3.4 dohc lumina (appears to be at least) at the police auctions next month. i want to use the motor in a rwd format, the intake wouldn't stop me from using the motor, but it would be nice to know before hand. any info would be helpful, thanks in advance.

You could if you turned the upper AND the lower, which you'd have to anyway. Otherwise, you'd have a hose running to the back of the engine to go into the lower intake. But then you have to figure out how to make the thermostat and upper radiator hose work when they'll be right next to the power steering pump.I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Just a quick thought... could there be a negative impact to waterflow through the heads if you turned the lower intake? Remember that the heads have water ports to feed through the lower intake on each end, however the lower intake only has ports to flow water through at the thermostat end. I'm not sure sure if this can create any problems or if it would not matter at all.
I guess the question I am trying to raise is: If water flows through the head coming from the front (timing side) of the motor and flowing through to the bellhousing side and now the thermostat is moved to the timing side could that cause the water to not have good flow over to the bellhousing end of the heads?1991 Grand Prix GTP LX9swap/Getrag 284 --- SOLD =(

could you just make a spacer between the upper and lower to with the correct bolt holes? stock bolt holes hold the spacer to the lower and new bolt holes hold the upper to the spacer?
Just a thought... might be easier then building a new intake from scratch....Shane "RedZMonte"

If it's a Euro and had the DOHC, it will say "EURO 3.4" on the side in a font they don't use on the Euro 3.1. And if it's an older DOHC, I guess rotating the upper with a spacer would be one way to do a TB coolant delete option.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

yeah, the picture they had posted on the web of the car, was only from the back, no visible badges.
as far as the coolant thing, i would assume, if this motor had "revised" cooling that the heads would recieve the coolant first and then the block, if it has a pass through tube on the LIM on the opposite end of the engine i would suspect that the coolant still flowed through the heads first and then too the block, but without knowing the direction of flow or how the coolant is meant to flow through the block you wont know for sure, if the flow is specific, there could be a chance of cavitating in the coolant system, creating hot spots , that could really screw with the engine, if someone has already rotated the intake with success i would say this is the way to go, or i could be talking out of my ass. if not i would guess an adapter or a sharp bend to point the throttle body forward are the best options. thanks for the info guys.Last edited by Supraboy; 07-21-2009, 01:18 PM.

I am working on similar plans to put an LQ1 in a RWD car. My plan was to just build a new upper intake based off the intake runners.
Just out of curiosity what are you planning to put it in?
