  • Need Help with the cams

I need info on timing the cams in my 3.4. I went thru all of the steps for setting up the cams for the rear bank and now I need to do the front bank. Now here comes the problem, the flats on the front and rear bank are facing up the bolts for the rear bank sprockets are tight to torque specs, cam hold down tool is removed from the rear bank and is in place on the front bank, the spocket bolts on the front bank are loose. The manual says to rotate the crank 360 degrees and the sprockets are suppose to "freewheel". I CAN'T MOVE THE DAMN CRANK. What the hell can I do? Please respond to sjs1426@gra.midco.net for some reason I can't open my notifications

What do you mean you can't move the crank? Take the passenger tire off, get a 15 mil socket, and turn the crank clockwise (I believe it is clockwise, I am assuming you have a repair manual, so check that first). Get a long enough extension and you can move the crank and look to see where your timing mark is up top.

What year engine? If it is a 94+, take a block of wood, put it on the back side of the gears, and smack it with a hammer to make sure they are broken free to freewheel.

If the engine is on a stand what Octavarium said still applies. The engine stand may prevent you from spinning the engine via the flywheel but the center bolt on the crank pulley should be accessible.

the stand does not interfere with the flywheel, i have tried turning the crank from the front and still does not budge. my engine is a 92 i'll try what pocket-rocket suggests
